OK, lets go to the other side of the coin then shall we?

A noob industrial character mines with T2 lasers with a cruiser to get ore to manufacture basic T1 items. Since isk is at a premium at this point in the game, the noob can only afford BPO's like missile launchers and such. Now if only they could find a slot that enables them to research to ME20 in less than 2 months, during which time there is no access to the un-modified BPO.

OK, sat training skills until the BPO returns and the noob starts to manufacture. But wait... NPC orders already flood the market at a price the noob can't really compete with given their skills and costs, not to mention time spent mining with T2 lasers.

The problem is, if you buff the system to make it profitable for the noob to become an industrial character, you have to buff it all the way to the top so the top end miner/manufacturer also makes more isk.

OK. So the noob re-rolls their character and becomes a pure PVP character. Out in frigates in lowsec every night losing loads of frigates in the hope that one day, they may actually encounter a lowsec character who's not in a HAC. Oh... The isk pool has run out and the noob can't afford any more frigs/fittings... What now? Looks like it's back to highsec in the noob ship hoping to make enough isk from 0.8 belt rats... 15 noob ships later and only 2 belt rats destroyed... Account closed.

Either way, it takes time to build a good character whether it's a PVP or an industrialist. That costs isk. A noob has to get the isk from somewhere and for most, mining seems like the only viable option. Remember that from a noob's point of view, they only see Mining and PVP as the two options open to them. It takes time and a bit of investment to find the other ways of making isk. Trading requires some isk investment as well as the isk to buy a decent hauler, you would be insane to try to start trading in a noob ship hoping to make enough to make it worthwhile, it would take forever and then some.

I remember when I started, making my first million took an eternity. Now it's just pocket change. I could roll another char and make a million in the first day now, but that's only because I know how to play the game and I know the easiest ways.

Regarding the OP's post. Having a miner character is hard work. Lots of time spent skill training, most often an alt hauler and no chance of going to lowsec to mine something decent because the necessity to take a large team of combat pilots for defence against gankers takes away any extra isk that the higher level ore may have given. Lowec mining does not pay at all.

Sometimes I wonder if the players who whine about mining and prices also happen to think a socialized economy is a good idea IRL...

Last time I tried, I made a hyperion 50ME BPC, the price i could get for those minerals was around 180mil price of hyperion 150-160mil ...........

you're an idiot if you paid 180 for the minerals. ME20 hyperion costs 141m at Oursulaert buy order prices.

I only mine when I either dont have time to do missions or just want to hang in the channel and chat. Frankly my advice to any wanabe industrialist is do the combat pilot rout, then run missions to get the cash for books-BPs and salvage-loot to refine into minerals.
