I can't think of a single movie ever made based on a videogame that could be claimed to be a success.
EVE's fanbase is vocal and dedicated, but far too small to support a movie of any quality by itself. I could see some of the backstory and environment providing inspiration to a screenwriter, but I gotta be honest and say I think an EVE feature film has no shot at all.

Usually thats because they are written by people without a clue, who wants to turn it into something for the masses. silent hill the movie was a combo of all the games, when Part II would have made a superb movie.

Originally by: Death Kill I would rather see a smaller budget movie made by a smaller company rather than 'lets screw the script and create cool specialeffects hollywood'.
This will never change when you consider the vast sums of money being thrown into the production of films of this nature.
Look, it's pretty hard to know without any doubt whether people will like a film or not, or more to the point, like the people in it and the characters they portray.
So what do you do?
You throw lots of money at the effects department and ramp up the production values and/or marketing of the film (if it tests really poorly). This then means you can promote the film on the visual strengths, impressing a hungry audience looking for the next Saturday-night blockbuster.
If you have good characters which people respond to well - win. If your characters are two-dimensional losers which the audience cannot relate to, but the films delivers on it's visual candy, which was promised in the trailers and tv spots - win.
It's win-win.
Look, I'm a total sucker for special effects and will begrudgingly put up with pointless plots and thin attempts at dialogue just to see something jaw-dropping.
The fate of a Sci-Fi film is doomed before it has begun.
All a writer can do is write the script - after that, the film is out of their hands. Full stop, period - end of story.

Definately not!
The last space game that was made into a movie was "Wing Commander" that was a badass game for its time (Definately dating myself in this post) and the movie blew chunks! _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. I liked the Wing Commander movie. You've got to put in to watching a movie NO EXPECTATION. Then enjoy what you get. :)

I think that Wing Commander, like Doom, is entertaining without being especially good. If you know what to expect going into it, then you won't be disappointed. ------------ Whiners - Unite! Tarminic - 25 Million SP in Forum Warfare. |

Ok, I am probably guilty as charged there, but the plot in the game was better than the 25 cent hollywood plot bubblegum machine they pulled that script out of.
I cant help it, I havent seen transformers yet cause I am afraid I might have to go steal a tank buck naked and drive it into a walmart if it sucks bad!
Ok, just kidding...mabee my expectations are a wee bit high! LOL! _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. You have'll have to find some alternative means to do Your Thing, dude. |

well more my point is, keep it pretty simple. the unwashed masses of movie watchers are often disuaded by too many intricate story lines.
I get your point, but the concept you mention has been done to death x 100 and will automatically be compared to other good vs bad movies such as starwars and what not.
And, one should never create movies that aim to please the masses because then you get ******* directors such as Paul WS Anderson who created Residen evil and Alien vs predaor.
saddly, this is reality. people will compare it to the above mentioned films. wich wouldn't be horrible, the back story of EVE would lend its self to motion picture easily. lots of interesting things to follow, the problem is you need to keep it a)focused, this would probly be harder for a player to write it into a script, due to our knowledge of many of the back ground dealings and histories, and b) long enough to tell a single story( and I concede several different stories could be included in the overall story) yet short enough to not lose the viewer. EVE would also lend its self real well to a mini-series / full series as well. agian that's been done, battlestar gallatica, firefly, buckrogers, space 1999, babylon 5. etc.. obviously it would be great to cater directly to the players of this game, but impractical. hopefully the person here who is currently going thru the process now can find that happy medium between personal vision and what will be required to get this to release. I so came to party!

I agree on everything but not not catering the movie for the players because that usually involve altering the story, and if you do hat its no longer EVE. It used to be EV catered to the masses and thus looses much of its essence.

This takes place near the beginning of a fight with pirates outside a station that is near the wormhole.
A large swivel arm moves a small brown egg-shaped armor plated capsule, large enough to hold a single person into the docking pad from a small slot in the wall nearby. Eric looks to Siigari, both of them watching the capsule come down to the pad.
"Do you remember the day that we broke into Dad's vault? When he saw us reading all the books on spacefaring I don't think I ever saw him so red."
Siigari smiled widely and lets out a chuckle. "Yeah, I remember not being able to tell if we had our hand caught in the cookie jar or not. All I remember him saying in his fatherly tone was 'Don't get ahead of yourselves.. the academy will train you to be a proper pilot' and blah blah blah. That was a long time ago."
Eric smiles and nods, his eyes lit by the capsule opening on the top to reveal a small space glowing vibrantly green. He lets go of Siigari's hand, turns to her and hugs her tightly. "Don't let me lose the only true family I have left. I love you."
Siigari passes a single tear under all the tension rising from the impending fight. "I love you too, Eric. You know I've done this thousands of times. If anybody should be afraid of losing their family, it's me watching you in that pile of junk." Siigari points to Eric's fighter, watching as Kitty bangs her head on an engine manifold and exclaims a profanity.
Siigari lets loose of Eric's arms and steps up a small ladder next to the capsule. She then climbs into it, and begins hooking up various tubings to the outer part of her suit. She puts on a small hat that covers most of her head, excluding her face, and connects more tubes.
"I'll be okay, Eric. Now be sure to cover my ass okay?" Siigari smiles, and presses a red button on the outside of the capsule. She slinks down into the green light and the capsule hatch closes. After, the swivel arm picks the pod up, and deposits the capsule in her cruiser in a small opening in the top of the ship. Eric notices the ship looks better now after receiving some station armor repairs.
Eric turns to his fighter and starts walking towards Kitty who is just jumping out of the starboard engine manifold.
"Kitty are we ready to go?" Eric asks, excited and nervous all the same.
"Yeah she should be all ready to go Captain! The starboard engine is reporting a point zero zero three percent decrease in cycle time, so you may have to be careful if you cut thrust too quickly. It may cause the ship to spin to the right slightly." Kitty smiles at hearing her own expertise fall on listening ears.
"Thanks Kitty, you're a doll." Eric grabs Kitty with his right and and pulls her forward, kissing her on the head. "I'll be back in no time."
Kitty pulls away. "You'd better be, or else I ain't gonna have nobody to captain our ship!"
Eric grins, then walks up the fighter's cargobay ramp and the door closes behind him on voice command from Eric. _________________ Burn. |

I can see it now... an hour of mining, then some shmuck comes in and steals the ore out of the jet-can... 5 hours of shooting at the POS to disable services, then some guys takes 15 minutes out of his day to rep the shields back to full strength... 30 jumps to the enemies station, then a black screen, ending up with you in your shiny new clone...
Eve's bad enough. Any movie true to Eve would either be slow-paced to the point of boredom, or totally crushing to one side in a fleet battle. No thanks. I already pay for Eve, why would I pay to see a movie *about* Eve. __________________________________________________ FOLD. The Ultimate PVP. It really is Us vs. Them. clicky |

I'm not one to destroy the dreams of others. If you have a dream the worst thing would be to let it be ripped out of your hands without giving it a shot. I have allowed this to happen too many times.
Whether or not it will be a success is not the issue. Not to try would be the crime.
I have my own disgruntles with the world of Eve as it lacks the glimmer of hope and is full of evilness, but I would pay to see an Eve movie just because I was a part, a very, very small part, of the community.
If the artist at hand has a dream I hope that he handles it like the growing child it is. Give it the room to grow and live. And yes, let it fall as many parents have had to let their children fall... then watch them rise up with with more determination than ever to take the next step. Always take the next step.
Take the chance!!! Live your dream!!! No matter what happens... you did it!!!
Good luck!!
