to put it simply players are not smart enough to control prices themselves. To many people are dumb enough to sell things they produce at the mineral cost of the item at no profit, which in turn makes making a profit on goods nearly impossible unless you are selling battlehships which even those considering the time you put in to build them barely turn more then a 5-10% profit margin (horrible by any real life buisness's standards).
Solotion to me is simple, the players have demonstrated they are incapable of making smart decisions in regards to prodcution so use npc demand to regulate prices. Seeing as the market knows the avg cost of minerals the npc's can easily use a formula to make buy prices for all goods that will prevent prices on goods from falling to far. I have PE lvl 5 and still turn little profit on most things i build which is insane. Just my opinion and i'm sure i'll get flames, but the players haven proven they can't handel a soley player drivien economy.

Its even worse when you have to compete with prices lower than mineral cost. Had this a few times recently. I just have to hold my products until they are all gone.

The problem I have with no NPC offers is that a lot of basic equipment is no-where to be found on the market [did I hear anyone say gravimetric backup arrays?!] Also its kinda stupid that theres NO Scorpions or Ravens for sale in the whole of Caldari space [and around it, for that matters]. I think NPC should sell at least basic stuff in their own regions. Prices don't have to be THAT good, but I would like to see basic equipment for sale by NPC corps [maybe only if theres no players selling them] in their own region ;) ___________________________________________________

Maybe it's up to the players to find out these shortages and supply if from the regions that do have them on sale.

NPC demand at a fixed profit margin according to current mineral prices ?? NO WAY !! Just imagine: "Hmmm noone wants to buy my newly built Apoc at 120 million ?? Ahh well, ther's NPC demand anyway..."

Buy cheap and sell expensive. I earn a lot of money that way thanks to the lazy captains around here that:
- don't want to go 3 jumps to get it cheaper I earn big bucks bringing some extra for my R&D agent. ;)
- sell everything below recycle price. Hey, what's the risk? if I don't get it sold for my price, I can just recycle it.

The point is if the npcs DONT sell high end goods, but they do buy them, then people will sell their apoc at 130 million to the players instead of settling for 120 millino which when they do sell at that it's cuz it costs 110 to build them. The NPC's would only buy stuff at 5-10% markup so that prices would never fall to a point people can not make any money for building stuff. As the above said there is times peopel sell for less then mineral cost which is just stupid.
so to put it in a nutshell players would make hardly any money selling to npc's where as they would make money selling to players. |

If anyone wants to buy gravimetric/radar/ladar/magnetronic backup arrays, call me and I can put them in escrow for you or we can trade directly.
I even have multifrequency (all freqs in one module) if you wish.

Think about what you are saying lol. this wouldn't change anything except to cause rampant inflation. "mineral cost" is in the eye of the beholder. I get pyerite for 3.5 to 3.8 each, some people can only get it for 5 isk each. who is to say who is making a profit?

You have got to be kidding me right?????? You obviously wern't here when battleships first came out on the markets. We were able to fetch over NPC price for the Teir One battleships the first couple weeks thats over 125m for a dominix. Or how you use to be able to get 200%-500% profit margins on items. You dont know how good you guys have it now. I would kill to have prices back to the way there were, but as people have said dumb people keep driving prices down.
The current ship market is similar to that of the American Car industry now I think. With companies like GM giving away cars like mad and offering incentives they are barely turning profits, but they want to make that sale and increase the volume moved.
Whenever I hear people complaining about how high prices are I just get SOOOO figgin mad. Prices right now are completely retarded. Nothing will ever stop the stupidity rampaging through the markets now. It only takes one idiot to set the price ridiculously low to kill the market for an item. Some people want to make a sale no matter what the cost.

i think the main problem here is that many people dont put a value on their time. also tho their are the simply braindead people who dont understand that selling the raw minerals would get them more money but i think they are the minority... atleast i hope so

A lot of people actually labour under the impression that minerals are 'free'.
This perhaps accounts for the stupidly low prices on the items that such persons sell.
