Sounds very strange. Try to turn off sound and see if it helps (just to narrow down what the problem is).

If it indeed is the sound (which I'd bet it is), you could try disabling the soundcard's hardware acceleration.
How to do this:
Start -> Run -> dxdiag Go to the sound tab, and put the slider all the way to the left.
Might work, otherwise you'd have to play without sound or get yourself a (preferably non-Realtek) off-board soundcard.

So is it motherboards with the realtek sound chips that have these problems? Im probably going to buy a new motherboard soon, and I think the one I was interested in had a realtek audio chip...

You're better off with a soundcard, they can come pretty cheap these days and the quality improvement from them is staggering.

Basically any card on this page is lightyears better than onboard sound Jim.. For maximum performance though you can't go wrong with a Turtle Beach card though the newest Audigys are closing the gap nicely..

I actually have a Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS, but I figured I might be able to save the pci slot if I buy a new motherboard that have decent onboard sound.
If it crashes my dear Eve though, I will have to use the Audigy. :)

Oh! Nice card.. But why do you want to save a pci slot? Not enough pci slots on the new MB?

I dont know, I just like keeping things neat if I can. Less stuff in the case, more room for air and cables.
You should see me organize my Start Menu. ---

My mobo has a Realtek sound chip onboard and so far *touch wood* sound has never caused me any issues ingame -------------------------------------------------- brakespear - the lowest common denominator |
