If I am going to use the Giga Beam guns which of the XL crystals are best for POS take down and are there better ones for Capital on capital battles?

First, congratulations on the Revelation. Its sturdy and a good all round "meat and potatoes" dread.
So you would need Multifrequency XL for POS take downs. Most of the time you will have the luxury of coming in at your optimal, and in this era of 14X hardeners on POS's you want to do as much damage as possible.
Next I would say get Gamma XL. Why? Because plainly you could be in a group and bumping off other dreads, and basically in a situation where you cant quite get into your optimal with Multifrequency.
Finally, you would also need Standard, Microwave and Radio. Standard works well for that 100km range, and you need the microwave and radio for those cap-cap engagements. When you are the attacker, you can dictate a long range engagement and enjoy some early progress while the enemy fumbles to change ammo. In addition, you may have more success shooting moveing cap ships like carriers than you would at close range. When using radio or microwave, be sure to have an 2X sensor booster handy or you will not be able to take advantage of the long range.
Hope you found this helpful.

Deadweight thanks for the very good run down on each crystal and how it applies to the overall use of the Dread and the situation. Nohah what kind price am I looking at for the faction ammo?
Finally Thanks to the troll for the useless smack but then again I am new to the ship so Noobsause is suprisingly truthful on your part.

Edited by: Bishop Malkori on 15/08/2007 19:22:50 Trev I checked M. pire killboards do you even fly a dread? I didn't see any kills with a dread or a carrier and only a few with a vaga and or recon. But you do have a good kill % so much respect there or is that your alt?

Uhm.
Last I heard the biggest advantage of the revelation above other dreads was the fact that it could use short range guns (pulses) and still hit the POS.
Throwing that out of the window seems a little bit of a waste? or?

No, "the biggest advantage of the revelation above other dreads" is the fact that it never has to reload. Giga Pulses with Multi barely hit 35-40km. That is not big enough to justify the 250 - 300 dps more. The Giga Beams are more versatile because of their range and formidable damage. ------------------- ნỊs uʍop əpỊsdn |

Depends on the size of your op. If there are 10 other dreads with you, yes, sure.
If it's a couple dreads taking down a small pos, it's quite nice to have more damage.
I suppose everyone just blobs in eve now, so this isn't important anymore.

Being a competent dread pilot and getting kills with are usually (well, almost always) two different things. If you're getting into a dread your imminent future won't be gate camping or roaming with it. It'll be a shiny thing you take out once in a while to beat up POS tower and station services. Very rarely you will take it out to ship-ship combat vs other capitals.
The basic mechanics of dreads are very easy - get in place for your optimal, siege up and start shooting. The crystals you bring should encompass various ranges for your optimal. This is no different from any other combat ship, albeit infinitely larger and bulkier. Hence why the question might appear a bit on the unexperienced side....
And please check our corp killboard if you want the facts about him. But don't look at me, I'm a carebear/phoenix pilot only

Fortior very good points! After got my first few rounds of ammo in and tested my giga guns I thought about how much I will use this ship less than my carrier in day to day operations.
I'm sure Tiev is a OG so I respect the fact that I am a noob in the capitol world and I am asking because its a new ship to me but I just wondered if he would give me pointers rather than a noobarse kick my puny thread lol.
