I like the brutix dps too much to use something else tbh. Cane is cool, because it can tank a bit and the range, but a brutix setup for gank is plain evil.
And if you fit ions, it can tank just a tiny bit too. If not, neutrons are the way to go. Just use a cap booster on it.
edit: in small gangs you don't need that extra range anyway. :)

Brutix is obsolete since the myrmidon can tank and gank much better and is faster too.

True, well, brutix is a t1 BC anyway. All i say is, it can be a lot of fun. And if the myrmidon tanks, i doubt it can outdps the gank brutix with neutrons. :) |

Brutix, if you dont need to take everything, you can just produce mass murder damage, Canes a sweet ship and good for dmg and tank but im still for pure dps on the brutix!

if u want being able to run if u overestimated ur killability than the cane.
if u want a "kill or die trying" situation take the brutix.
in general:
cane is faster, has more range
has average dps compared to a brutix and has a tank like a paper bag if compared to caldari, amarr and gallente.
brutix is slower than the cane, has a smaller range
has insane dps, and tanks like theres no tomorrow.
u can say the brutix makes the traditional american football aproach on the battlefield, get close and ram the mofo into the ground.
the cane however is more agile and likes to plow the enemies face from afar. if a cane gets in to web range of a brutix u can kiss ur ass goodbye. if the cane dictates the range the brutix is toast, however it will take the cane some time to wear the brutix tank down.

Every competent cane pilot also fits a web for situations like this. If you get webbed in a cane fighting a brutix you will just web him too and run away from web range

Myrmidon with heavy neutron II's (unbonused), 3x magstab II's, and 5x Ogre II's will not only outdamage a bonused neutron Brutix w/ Hammerhead II's but also, with an RCU II, have room for a med cap booster and MAR II.
In other words, you can fit better tank AND better pewpew on a gank Myrmidon as opposed to a gank Brutix.
To answer the OP, I have had former corpies who flew autocanes to great effect. I still fly the Brutix as it is and I love that ship, but frankly it has been outclassed by the Myrmidon, which IMHO is a better BC than the autocane.

AC hurricane with 3x falloff rigs can nail 50% out to 26km or something.
