ok everything i've found has been from 2004 (a lil out of date now)
so anyone fancy givin me a run down of what you get from research agents? i know you get research points which can be traded in for data-cores and the T2 BPO lottery is close enough to done away with now i think so are they only good for free data cores now? also what is the list of items all about in the agent info tab?

Maybe fancier agents give other things, but the current agent gives me datacores of the same type as the research I am doing (eg, Caldari starship engineering research allows me to buy Caldari starship engineering datacores). Another effect is that research missions count towards storyline missions. So even if you don't do any other missioning other than research and the subsequent storylines, you will continue to gain standing with the corporation and its faction.
I don't have a lot of research skills so it may be that there's more value if you have more than one of the agent's skills or high level agents (my highest is a low quality 2) may give other things.

To expand on Tasko's post regarding storyline missions for Research Agents, you do indeed receive storyline missions for performing missions for Research Agents. Like regular agents you will receive a storyline mission after running 16 Research Agent missions. The count for storyline mission award are different between standard agents and research agents. In other words, standard agent and research agent mission counts are not combined. You will need to run 16 research agent missions before getting a storyline award.
The storyline missions are similar in nature and award to the standard agent storyline. The level of storyline is calculated in the same way and is based upon the level of research agent used and the number of missions run (e.g. if the majority of research agent missions run out of the 16 were level 2, then you'll receive a level 2 storyline).
Because Research Agent missions are normally very simple courier / mineral delivery type it is easy to accumulate 16 missions in short order for a storyline. This is especially true if you have more than one Research Agent that you are working at one time.

I presently have a toon training up for research agents and I have a good grasp on the concept. Does anyone have any info on converstion rate of RP to datacores. In addition, what can one expect out of say a single lvl 1 agent, or 4 to 5 lvl 4 agents.
Thanks!!!

It's been a while since I checked, but I believe it's 100RP = 1 data core of the type specific to the research you are performing with the agent. The number of RP you get a day is based upon your skill level of the particular science skill related to the research you are doing with the agent, the quality of the agent, and your standing with the NPC corp. For example, you'll get around 20RP a day for a good quality level 1 agent, NPC corp standing of around 4, and training the specific science skill to lvl 2. You'll come close to adding 30% to that amount with each skill level increase. If you run daily missions for the research agent, it will double your daily amount of RP.

Your info are way outdated. The cost for datacores is 50 RP (with a field multiplier, the same used whe receiving the RP i.e. Starship engineering give x3 RP and the datacores require 150 RP).
The RP you get are (agent skill level + your skill level)^2*(1+agent true quality/100).
So if you have 1 in the appropriate skill and the agent is level 1 , true quality 20 you get: (1+1)^2*(1+20/100)= 4*1.20=4.8 if your skill is 2 (1+2)^*1.20= 9*1.2=10.8
and so on.
So higher level agents are way better and increasing your skill has a noticeable effect.
Currently R&D agents only give datacores for RP, there seem to be hypotesis for other rewards in the future.
