Hey
I am training towards be able to use a Hulk and want to mine in hi-sec.
Is this a feasible eay to make ISK? How much can you make per hour?

It is overkill really. I mean sure you will mine more than in a covetor lets say but it will take quite some time to make up for the price difference me thinks. Maybe mining ice, but in that case I would use a Mackinaw. Hope this helps.

If you are using Modulated Stip Miner-II in a Covetor you are a potential target for a suicide gank. Those MSM-II are valuable and a Covetor cannot tank really at all.
A Hulk with the ideal tank as decribed in Halada's mining Guide is not really suicidable. Sure it CAN be done but chances are excellent the suiciders will lose far more than they gain.
Add in a Hulk can do a decent job of killing ore thieves. Surprise them and fit a scram and a web. A Hulk can carry a good compliment of drones and again with its tank can handle most ore thieves. Great fun that (recently took down a guy thieving with a Caracal).

SO... does that mean you can make a good or decent living with a Hulk in hisec moning? I am not worried about the cost of the Hulk just wonder if you can make good ISK per hour of haul...

Off the top of my head, (assuming you have 2 accounts: 1 for the hulk 1 for the hauler)
Total intial costs: Hulk + (3xStrip miner II or strip miner Is) + Miner crystals (if using t2 strips) + drones (add a combat one in incase a warp scambling rat pops on you) + bare minimum tank for belt + hauler + cargo expanders.
Income (mil/h): Amount of isk (mil) made in high sec per hour mined. Obviously your gonna have to haul it, refine it, sell it and may take longer than 1 evening...
Breakeven time: (Total initial costs (mil isk))/(Income(mil isk)/hr) = x hrs
Again, complete guess work, lets say the Hulk and hauler and all the fittings cost 150ish mil?
And, lets completely assume you have a high sec system belt all to yourself mining and make after hauling, refining etc etc 5mil/hr?
You would have to mine for 150 (mil isk)/5(mil/hr) = 30 hours to payback your initial hulk investment. If you played 3 hours a night this would obviously take you 10 nights to accomplish.
ps. I have absolutely no idea if you can make 5mil an hour from mining in high sec on sale of mins yourself. I also have no idea if a hulk + fittings = 150mil, in actual fact its probably going to be a wee bit higher. Get the guiste though?

I've set it up that I have 2 accounts with Haulers, miner, refiner and trader.
I guess my overall question is can you make 5mil an hour -that would be my target goal
any miners on here know?
Ty for the responses so far.

You can easily make 5mil an hour in high secs. Especially if your in a mining corp. My corp buys isogen for 73-80 each, and in an osprey i make about 2- 2.5 mil an hour. o and btw i am talking about 0.5/0.6 sectors. Also hauling with a tractor beam.
Caol the reason why the price of the hulk doesnt matter is probably because hes in a mining corp like me and our corp members build exhumers or supply us with them.

5mil an hour with a hulk is easily possible, as long as you mine the right roids. I can currently make nearly 3.5mil an hour with a Retriever and 2 Strip I's when mining Kernite. And I recon you can mine twice as much an hour in a Hulk with Strip IIs and Crystal Is.
Get yourself an excel spreadsheet going and just add info here and there, refine it, add stuff, remove stuff, it will be your best friend :)

Got a Hulk on another character a week ago, and it's so much better than a Covetor, slap on T2 Cargo Expanders in the lows and you're looking at 13k m3 of space and with T1 Cargo rigs it's around 17k m3. Being able to mine and haul just makes the whole process so much easier, not to mention the superior tank, aswell as the bonus from Exhumers.
And with the Hulk prices failing, down to 120m these days, sure the initial investment is rather large the sheer convenience of people able to mine and haul with the same ship is worth it.

I have followed Halada's great guide and trained to max skills in all respects except the implants and director skills. I can assure you that you can easily make in excess of 5-m per hour with a fully setup hulk and fully trained character. My T2 strippers are now pulling in 1626m3 each per cycle and I still have some skills and implants to add.
So what does that mean... Assuming I am only doing straight Vel, the cheapest and most readily available ore in the gallaxy, then I would be hauling in 4,878m3 or 48,780 pieces. Assuminf 100% refining skills, which I almost have, then the 48,780 units means I am refining 146.486 batches of Vel and getting 146,486 units of Trit per every 3 minute cycle. If I multiple that by 20 to get a full hour I am refining the equivalent of 2,929,729 trit per hour. Selling this at a conservative 2 isk each gives me 5,859,459 ISK (and you can sell it for more than that... I am generally selling for about 2.25 to 2.40).
Further more, sticking with the vel example, if you concentrate on the premium ores you will get a 5% to 10% bonus on top of that.
Now there are many more ores out there that will generate significantly more revenue for you so consider this a worst case senario.
Also, having the second account as a hauler allows you to set up a squad and with foreman skills you will be able to get a 10% bonus at lvl 5. It also allows you to get rid of the jet can worries. :)
I hope this helps... and yes, you can make much more than 5-m an hour in hi-sec.

IMO, all of Caol's estimates are low. 150M will cover the Hulk's hull alone After that, the mods/rigs have gotta be another 50-100M, especially with the deadspace shield booster which pops up on 99.99% of Hulk builds (I think Corpum A-type) So overall, you're looking at about 40 hours to pay it back. ------------------------------ One more soldier off to war... And one Velator in my hangars. |

Edited by: Ewiss on 16/08/2007 14:06:18 Acoco, Hulk prices have dropped a fair bit over the past month or so, down to less than 110mil in jita, and 135 average according to eve-central. *Edit: Ah, about 150mil including 3 x Strip IIs* Also in high sec, you dont need that 100mils worth of extra bits for surviving 0.0 spawns. Will you even need a few bits to avoid suiciders?? Surely in high sec the worst thing to worry about is jetcan stealers. Ellisd |

A hulk does not out mine a covetor by much, thats not the point. Fit two expanders and you have 12,000 m3. Perfect for making a little isk while studying.
