Personally, I like the idea of a developer being solely interested in pvp.
So he doesn't mine, he doesn't kill npc'...only pvp. How did he get out of that rookie ship? --------------------------- (c) Copyright Saladin, 2005. Any editing of this post by a third party will be in violation United States Internet Copyright law 46525 of 2003. |

no it's not
just because you PvP doesnt mean every1 PVP's
Games that are focussed at PVP and have 0% npc in the game are dead in a few days ... and boring ...
Just look at Planetside ... VERY pvp teambased ... Cause it's so combat PVP all items are free and no1 needs to make them ...
In EvE there are people who make the items and people who provide the resources to make them ...
Sorry but if you think EvE is PvP ... play planetside and you will see EvE has a bit of everything and is not just PvPP wich your statement sais ...
Read my ******* post again. When you mine a scordite roid in one of the 1.0 systems you stop a n00b from mining that one and he may have to mine a veldspar roid instead. You make money, he makes money too, but he makes less money than he would have done without you.
Hence you, and everyone else, compete against other players all the time.
You are just to narrow-minded to see that. since you think PvP=compat, when EVE is Player vs Player ALL THE TIME, NO MATTER WHAT YOU'RE DOING IN EVE.

That is the misconception in a lot of players' reasoning.
A lot of players compete in RL, and play games for other reasons...
EVE should have PvP, in combat and in material aquisition, I agree. But Comabat should not be neccessary in every aspect of the game to enjoy it.
If you don't compete, you don't win... Well, I'm not really trying to "WIN" anything, I'm looking for fun.
I had the most fun in EnB because of the way the guild structure worked, how it required teamwork & built camaraderie. I don't feel the same thing in EVE. The only teamwork that is required is when you want to kill... Or when you need to mine endlessly so you can build a ship to go kill someone...
I think an alien invasion and a bunch of corps banding together would do wonders to bring something of what I'm looking for in this game.
There is no "big picture" in EVE.
Whats the difference between a alien invasion and a m0o invasion?

"Whats the difference between a alien invasion and a m0o invasion?"
The m0o invation is not content as far as I'm concerned. Not the kind of content you can rely upon being there when you log onto play for your 1-2 hrs a day...
Player created content is great and all, but it's too inconsistent to base your whole playstyle upon.
Gate camping, docking & logging is not what I consider a reliable constant source of game content...

Not based on PvP? Every aspect of the game is based on PvP. Be it the market, or the combat.
*edit* oh, and planet side is also a FPS COMBAT game. Good game though. If you like paying monthly for something you can get for free...

Quote: would u rather pirates use rubber balls to throw at u?.....so u can mine and frolic in perfect harmony......the game is what u make of it........
Not at all.
What I WOULD like is for pirates to have to abide by their chosen profession with BOTH the perks AND the downsides. As it stands there really is no downside.
- Get sec status working so it means something (lost count of how many times I've been jumped by a pirate with a positive sec rating).
- Do something about the ALT menace. In theory being a pirate should keep you out of hi-sec space (in conjunction with the fubar sec rating system). No problem...log in your ALT and go do whatever needs doing.
- Make tracking people in EVE MUCH easier. Pirate wronged you and you want revenge? Great...you should be able to go after them but you have to FIND them first (and of course pirates could use it as well...goes both ways). How many pirates here have been threatened that your prey will come back to get you (or their corp)? How many times has that ever been followed up on? Sometimes it is just talk but I know for me at least I'd have a few people I'd love to hunt across EVE and would do so if I ever found a reliable way to do it (I've used location services from agents...not very helpful at all).
- Make tracking people in-system and have a chance of actually catching them more possible. My corp has tried to root some pirates camping a system near us out of there. All good fun but we come in and try to engage and the pirate warps to a safespot and can happily sit there all day till we go. I don't expect the pirate to just sit nicely and get blown-up but there should be some reasonable chance of tracking them and getting them (yes I know there are technically ways to maybe catch him but they are exceedingly difficult to pull off...seems like he must have 100 warp stabs on that thing).

There is an issue with a developer not mining *potentially*.
The issue is that SOMEBODY HAS TO MINE.
Thats already clear to a noob. The game would just slow down to nothing if nobody mined. The developer cant really say that everyone can play the Eve that they played. Most people can never mine if they choose I suppose as I havent mined either =) But without miners this game slows down to nothing so if by chance things get slanted to far against miners or mining doesnt get the attention it deserves then there are risk.
But I suspect there are other developers that know mining. I would be curious though if theres any developers that have done nothing but mining.

Please STFU. There will never be bistot in 1.0 and 0.0 will never be safe. I for one hope you quit. One less carebear baby is good for Eve. Hell, I might just buy another account if you quit to offset your (loss).
Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Another less than constructive statement from a person who obviously does not undertsand the entire point of the discussion in this thread.
If everyone who disagrees with you quits the game, there won't be anybody left to play with. Viewed in another light, prisons are such awful, dreadful places to live because everybody is just like you. AS I have said elsewhere, game balance is a tricky thing. I will continue to play because this is an interesting game. I hope CCP continues to try for a better balance between total lawlessness and total safety. Neither extreme is a consummation to be desired.

And why pray tell does a dev HAVE to do everything in a game? Isnt it his/her prerogative (as a player) to do whatever the heck he/she wants? You go on about other people forcing you into a role, yet when a dev chooses a role for his ingame character, you whine and moan and ***** like a little child. Grow up. EVE is a great game, it will continue to be good, but quite frankly, im getting tired of the whining.

There is a painfully obvious way for you to avoid all the "whining", don't read the f'ing threads!

When I began playing EvE I sure did my share of PvP. That was mining roids before other players could. The whole aspect of mining was to be able to afford the combat side of PvP. I did not sign up to EvE to play "Space Miner". I signed up for a Massively Multiplayer Online Game where I can compete against other players with the help of other like minded players.
Now I have no worries about loosing cruisers, frigs and clones.
Yes I still PvP mine and PvP trade, but my main game is now PvP combat.
If you bought the boxed game and have read the back you will see that EvE is all about power and control. Those of you that think we should have no Corp thefts, scammers, pirates and any one who is after a good fight should quit EvE buy an old BBC and play Elite.
Don't ***** out the Dev`s for catering to PvP when that is what EvE is.
And remember that PvP does not mean "combat" but Player versus Player in all aspects.
With love Bosie.

lol.
eve has pvp & non-pvp aspects. Eve isn't completely bunny-land safe, so you will probably not play for long without being affected in some manner by pvp. Additionally, even if you do nothing but pvp, you'll still be affected by the goings on of the non-pvp world within eve.
it's both. It will put off extremists of either persuasion, however most will be able to find a niche here.

Hey I'm all for killing and blowing things up but I really want more than that from a game, I like plots, stories, building stuff by yourself, the feeling of achivement and working together.
Skaz, you so get it! Without PvP (and I mean in your definition of the term) we all may as well be playing freelancer, competing with NPCs.
I have engaged in PvP off and on for about 5 months, heavily for about 2. I have yet to fire a weapon, and yet I think I'm doing pretty well.

I would agree with you if there were any way to get back at the thiefs, scammers and pirates. Basically impossible to do with the first two due to ALTs and exceedingly hard against pirates as tracking people's whereabouts in-game is near impossible.
As an aside can anyone tell me why CCP has no pilot locator service that does any good? Obviously it can be done and has already been coded as some Agents will find people for you but in my experience they are nearly useless unless you get lucky.

Freelancer by the way, has PvP. And when you engage on it, PvP on Freelancer is far more of a twitch, timing, and feel-skill game than on EVE. Freelancer PvP is almost FPS in spaceships. But of course, it does not have much depth beyond eye to hand coordination.
