Hi!
I used to be a virgin when it came to crimes and violence from other players. That cherry was stolen from me today, a few minutes before downtime. Stolen! Just like my ore.
For the last hour or so I had been sitting at a belt in highsec, happily watching the ore trickle in (pory.. proy.. thingie starts with a p kind of ore) and moving it from me cargobay to me jetcan. Admittedly I was half busy with the dishes at the same time, but that's beside the point. Did kill a rat though, my trusthworthy little drone blasting it to empire come.
Getting some 9k m3 of ore together I dock, hop into me hauler and head out, readying my tractor beam for a quick scoop up and all. I get to the belt, see the can, target the can.. can goes poof. Hmm? Due to lag and quick clicking, however, I find myself tractoring a rat wreck. Peering at the overview I see a flashing red bar, "player's name's executioner". Oh. Oh bugger. Why? Why would someone do that? With tears welling up in my eyes I convo the criminal and ask that very question. "for fun" is the answer I'm given.
I pull my hair. I kick and I scream. Corp mates warp in to comfort me. The criminal stands a safe distance away. A closer inspection of his ship reveals the executionr is a false identifier, it's really an interceptor. A false flag to boot, eh? In anger I dock and change into my Omen. Damien's his name. Blasting through space I reach the belt again, but now my anger has already subsided.
I realize that, a mere few minutes ago, I was ponderng to myself what to do with all this ore. Should I sell it at once, and reap the rewards? Or should I check the market further away, and thus maximize the isk gained? None of this was problems, anymore.
So fine, take my ore. I'm not even sure, if you just put it into a can of yours. Hardly you got it all into your tiny ship. Atleast I've learned a lesson, and a lesson cheaply bought it was...
...you're never safe, no matter where you are.

It hurt at first, but then I learned to accept it, as noted above. Not sure if I necessarily wanna do it again tho. Maybe if I'm on the other side of things...?

It is a damn shame CCP removed the mines from the game. Back in the ol' day, ore thieves was handled by a pile of mines around the can.

Edited by: Death Kill on 17/08/2007 11:42:27 I got my carebear ship blown up for the first time last night.
Got home from the pub after quiz and happy hour and was proper drunk when I decided to do a mission. Jumped one gate into lowesec and got probed out and dampened. Attacked by a force recon and a brutix.
It wouldnt have sucked so much if I could actually fire back

haha, lesson learned, use secure cans, always, else its like someone else said, "free for all"
Anyway, tried that myself, always been lucky, in the 2 years Ive been playing EVE, have mined alot, and never experienced an ore thief, well until one day....and he did it when I was mining, couldn't do anything, just watch him take my ore out of the jet can :( I shouted at him in local, tried to convo him, but no reaction, and it wasn't a bot, :( now, when I mine, which is quite rare, I use secure cans, though they hold lesser than a jet can.
take care, Anguz

Thief? It's ones and zeros for heavens's sake...it's a game. I think the OP was posting with tongue firmly in cheek anyway....lol
The good thing about high sec jet can thievery is that it is usually only your time that has been lost. Don't forget a sale is not a sale until you have your hands on the ISK!

And yeah, 's not as if I'm scarred for life by this. Life goes by. No harm done, etc. And yeah... guess it's time to look into them secure containers ;)

About 10 years ago, a griefer stole my copper ore on Ultima Online. I would pick up my pile of ore, drop it on the ground 10 feet closer to the smelter (cause it was too heavy to carry), pick up the pile again, drop it on the ground 10 feet closer to the smelter. Some invisible guy picked it up, and stole it from me.
Knowing that the thief couldn't drop the ore either, or else I would pick it up, I stood there and told them I wasn't going to leave. We squared off for about 30 minutes.
Griefers think they are cute and having fun, but theyre just pathetic little weasels. They are probably pathetic little weasels in real life too. I had a brother in law like that, he was a pathetic little weasel. These social degenerates are living out their fantasies online, like child molesters live out their fantasies online.
From Ultima Online to 2007, there hasn't been an exploitable-proof bounty-system, and until there is an exploitable-proof bounty-system these scum are going to continue to grief other players.
I would rather have a workable bounty-system then carebear zones, and more carebear rules.

The first time someone stole ore from me, was in good old Yulai. The guy got away with 2k veldspar, i was'nt upset. Cause they guy made such thing of it, bragging in local how he bravely had stolen the ore.
I just laughed it off and moved to a more secure system

Wait wait wait,, the most important part of this story is missing... You got into your Omen and..? Your anger subsided? So you didn't shoot him? How close were your corpies? They all had killrights too you know.
Anyway, you've nearly learned the most important lesson of EVE. All the meaningful advasaries you will have are other players. Thats why this game rocks.
There is a host of things you can do if you want to shoot back. That jetcan can be wonderful bait. Just remember you need to relocate less the flipper come back in something really mean.
So what really happened when you got to the belt in your Omen? Did you think better of engaging a interceptor? It's not a bad Idea, my Sader eats Omen's for breakfast. Or was he gone, you couldn't catch him? Did you really just not care anymore? That's healthy I suppose, it's just a game afterall.
-Galan
p.s. I offer the ocasional tutorials for young Amarr. Espceialy the ones I've nuked. Your free lesson is avoid the Covetor like the plague, it's a deathtrap. Find me in Mai if you want to know more.
