Edited by: Grez on 17/08/2007 17:18:05 Since people are unsure as to what will be required of the next graphics engine.
It doesn't matter about the suffix of the card, just the type of card you have (8800GTS & 8800GTX support the same types of technology).
If I'm missing a card, reply, and I'll stick it in the right list, but from this you should be able to find out whereabouts your card sits.
Explanation of what will work, and how much you can expect from each:
Owners of DX9 only cards can expect to be able to run the new engine, but you will not benefit from the performance of Shader Mark 3 optimisations or some of the effects that come with it.
Owners of DX9 and Shader Mark 3 cards can expect to be able to run the new engine and take advantage of all the optimisations in the DX9 engine, as well as all the effects.
Owners of DX10 and Shader Mark 4 cards can expect to be able to run both the DX9 engine, and the DX10 engine, with all the effects and optimisations.

The Radeon 9000, 9200 and 9250 are not DX9 cards. They are DX8 cards using the old RV250/RV280 GPU. |

Changed. Keep forgetting that they used the old 8 series cores :/ ---

There are some issues with Win XP and the ATI HD2xxx seies cards. Linkage. They apparently work OK with Vista though.
So if you aren't running Vista I would avoid them for the time being until the issues are sorted.

Most of the issues in the thread I started were fixed with updating to Catalyst 7.11.

I was under the impression that DX9 cards without SM3 will not even start the premium content client.

You know what? I`d guess you`re completely right on that one. AFAIK dx9 and sm3 are required to use the new engine.

I take it the ATI Radeon Mobility cards (my Acer Ferrari 4000 has an ATI Radeon Mobility x700 chip) wont run the new graphics. My GF is a little bit upset that my main machine plays just fine with them and the laptop can't.

Great thread, been wondering if my card would work.
Question is, would it be even worth it to upgrade to premium with a DX9 only card? Would graphics performance suffer greatly?

Edited by: princess minervia on 06/12/2007 03:18:36 Edited by: princess minervia on 06/12/2007 03:17:37 My friend has an ATI X850 Pro and the message in game says his machine wont support the new content.... I am guessing that his cards class according to this list, is not good enough for the new premium content? Hence the missing of Shader Mark 3...Any replies appreciated..
Thanks.
