I thought it might be a good idea to have another way to raise attributes besides just the learning skills. The way I am about to suggest is unorthodox in the world of EVE and not exactly original since this is how other MMO's function but I am only suggesting this idea to one part of a characters skills, and that is attributes. This will also greatly improve peoples interest in PvE, since now there is a much greater reward to it.
What if you could raise your perception by killing NPC's. After killing tons of NPC's in belts and in missions with turrets and missiles maybe your perception could go up a point. If you get many kills with drones maybe your memory could go up a point. If you complete a ton of missions your charisma could go up a point. If your an inventor and you invent many ships your intelligence could go up. Also some things don't have to be limited to one attribute, for example, killing a battleship could give a bigger increase towards getting another point in perception, while also giving a smaller increase to getting another point in willpower. Beating complexes, exploring, every part of EVE could be tied into raising certain attributes. Whatever you do that reflects upon your attributes could possibly raise them eventually over time with modifiers like, killing one battleship NPC gives you 0.1 increase to perception, with a full point on the 100th killed battleship. Just an example.
There would be a limit to how much and how fast you could gain attributes in this fashion, and it would be a slow process of course. I just thought it would be nice to have another reward besides ISK in this game. As of right now, the main thing to do is make ISK. Some alternative reward like gettineg boosted attributes for participating in certain parts of the game would make it more interesting. Remember I'm not suggesting something crazy like every little thing you do instantly raises your attributes, it would take time for everything. Some ideas and feedback are greatly appreciated, I just threw the idea out in hopes that others will like it and add to it and evolve it to make it seem more realistic and fair.

Sounds like people would feel they had to grind to keep up, just like with WoW.

ppl that have to mutch time to grind would love that. macros grinding and selling chars...
no and no is my vote atleast.
so many ppl like EVE just becouse you dont need to grind to still be better. grind to make isk, yes. grind to get standing, yes. grind to evolve, no!!

I think recieving anything special for killing npcs in a pvp game is an awful idea. Also eve is not all about making isk, tbh I have never really thought about making isk in the 4yrs that I have played... but then again I dont kill npcs or pve in a game that has an awful pve setup.

Edited by: VinnyTheBull on 18/08/2007 16:50:58 It wouldn't be for just killing npcs, it could also be for inventing, exploring, anything really. Just a small reward for partipating in the PvE side.
I can see where you are right that eve isn't about grinding, but you wouldn't be changing your character a ton, there could be a hard cap on how much you can raise your attributes, maybe only 3 points higher for each one.

I suggest you read the reasons given above... it's a bad idea for any MMO to work like this (imho); EVE, for me, is great because you cannot grind your skills up.
I hope it never changes.

It would reward players that play alot, and a lot of players like Eve because it doesnt force them to play a lot to keep up. Right now, the rewards for playing alot is more isk and more experience, but your character trains just as fast as everybody else with the same implants and character attribute points.
Thats the way most people like it I think (and hope). Personally I would really hate if Eve rewarded the ones that play a lot with faster skill training. I would feel forced to play to keep up.

Eve's training is essentially grind free. The only grind related things in eve is making isk, and clever people will use real life business skills to make forutunes of isk rather than grind asteroids/rats for money.
Implants do cost isk, so you have to earn a living, but if your idea took place, then it would force people to kill rats or mine asteroids which is against the free market nature of this game.
I know a noob who traded for his first month and made a bil in their first month by supplying weapons and modules from jita to markets near warzones. If your system was in place, I can be sure that he would have insted killed rats and gave up in eve. --

23/7 farming operations would be able to replace banned characters more quickly, as the required skill is reached earlier.
That would make farming operations more resilient to enforcement action, and increase their profitability, which would make farming even more widespread.

Do we really need to be able to raise attributes more than we already do? I think 15 points above base is enough.

No, CCP have tried this kinda of system before and it was exploited. The feel of EVE is that your stats/skills are all trained over time, it's unique and no need to change it.

Yay, a way for the unemployed and school kids to get ahead in an online game leaving all the people with lives and/or jobs in the cold again.
