Edited by: Ganja on 05/02/2004 06:21:25 First off - thanks to those who made me aware of this, you know who you are.
On Chaos Server, there seems to be some changes going down.
If you check the Map on Chaos, you'll notice all the outer regions have nice long jumps.
Hmm.. ok, so you fly there and are wondering what its about.
You get there and find yourself with this "Smuggler Gate":
"The old smuggling route gates were built by a coalition of Minmatar rebels and various pirate factions as a means to travel quickly and discreetly between the outer regions of space. They are favored by many to whom Empire Space is too high-profile and wish to keep a good distance from the vigilant fleet commanders of CONCORD."
Pictures: > Still > Still (#2) > Still (#3) > Jumping > Trippy
These smuggler gates, aka "Cult" (thats what CCP seemed to have deemed them as) gates, also seem to have stations.
We all know them as a few Gallente models (weird, jumpgates were built by Minmatars, yet they use Gallente tech?) but a "blueish" texture.
Pictures: 1 2 3
------------
My assumption is these jumpgates will be for the hardcore pirates, those of us -5 or lower.
Will that be the actual rules to use them? Who knows, but I highly doubt they'll be free use to all. I sure as hell hope they don't need agent whoring - thats utterly boring.
Lets see what you think...

Ganja man, you always find the coolest ****. lol.
If you have above a -2.5 rating the sentry guns should blow your ass up.
Anywho, wonder how long it'll take before they're introduced to TQ.

if you don't wake up, i'll have to stop kissing you. all that flailing has made you sleepy. you rest while i untie you. stay here until they find you. My hand made mannequin. i won't let them get you. they'll know you're mine by the fingerprints on your throat. isn't she lovely? isn't she wonderful? like the *****s that we are, swatting flies from the wounds we design. |

Personally I think this game should have made provisions for jumpholes rather than just jumpgates.
In the game Freelancer, you have both jumpgates and jumpholes. The jumpgates are always guarded with guns and patrolling navy ships. If you have a bad rep with the Navy, expect to be shot at.
Jumpholes on the other hand, are secretely within systems and appear like natural phenomenon rather than constructed artifacts. They're often hidden among nebula clouds of heavy asteroid belts. NPC pirates often come through these holes, and if you enter these holes, they lead to secret systems that are controlled by pirate factions. Jumpholes often provide shortcuts from one system to another.

Nice inforation Gaja, Even if these gates are a highway system around eve for ppl with a low sec rating, It will certainly still take them a while to get from A------>B

well...considering the Gallante and Caldari reinvented the jumpgate tech....it makes sence they'd want the best for those long jumps

To me it sounds that they are soon going to make jumpgates start looking at security rating - or have sentry guns paying more attention to faction ratings...

Woah! Some Alliances are going to be pretty unhappy about this.
Looks nice, great idea as well to be able to move from Region to Region like this.

Pirate does not equal smuggler. Admittedly there are certain character similarities, but no selfrespecting smuggler would want to be in a pot with a bloodthirsty killer - they consider their work to be semi-legal, not illegal.

if I was to take a wild guess .. I'd say these are the conquerable stations they said would be very soon .. and capturing the Smuggler Station gives you control over the smuggler gate :) . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

Now that would have some nice strategic value, battles for something that actually is controlable and has a considerable strategic value...
Would offer some hell of a fights...

Actually Ganja I believe these might be the stargates that can be "taken over" by players, like stations in chaos.
