ok well I wanted to try out pirating and read most of the guides but am quite unsure of how to get an incursus fitted. Most talk about the punisher etc..
I make maybe 2.5 million a day in a few hours on the trial account at the moment running missions and then salvaging. I'll probably suscribe when it ends. I'm only like 5 days in so 2.5 mil isn't that bad. anyway I believe I've got enough income to get a taste of pirating for the time being in t1 frigs.
I should have most of the basic skills for pirating done in 1 or 2 days.
From what I've read pretty much Warp Scramber, Webber, 3x ion blasters, afterburner, and armor repairer. What else?

Cap power relay in your last low, a warrior/warrior II in your drone bay, and don't forget to use your drone.

well as it is most of my points are in drones too lol. I chose military and special ops so I've got like 650k sp in drones. I'm just about to start drone interfacing for the 20%+ damage.

For an Amarr frigate the punisher is awesome for pirating. Plenty of low slots and 2 mid for the necessary speed an tackle.
For your high's im sure you got that covered.

Gallente Frigs are pretty poor for solo piracy. I'd say give the tristan a go for a while to learn, then move up to the vexor or thorax. You're probably better off joining some pirate outfit to hunt in packs and learn from them.

This would help for the learning curve.
BTW if you chose you can pirate in a Ibis.

In fact, Velator: with 2 light drones makes for the best noob ship in the game. Needs to be nerfed :D hehehe Null!!!! |

The Imicus makes a surprisingly decent frig as well.. Made of glass, but 3 drones with decent skills can put the hurt on.

Edited by: Praxis1452 on 19/08/2007 23:17:59 well what is a good place to pirate? Should I start off scanning asteroid belts for miners in say .4-.3 space? I only jumped once into 0.0 to see it out and got gate camped. Not a big loss and nothing to whine about as I only took out some crap navitas that I somehow had with only an afterburner to see how things were.
edit: and any good places to go to from say osmenden or algoville as those are where my agents are.

You won't find any miners in lowsec, and if you do.. you probably won't ever see them in lowsec again. I usually recommend areas around caldari space, you often see newbie ratters flying cormorants and caracals, often poorly fitted.

I have just started trying out pirating and was wondering would a Merlin or kestrel be good to use, if not why and what ship would u recommend. Also could I use a cov ops ship .i.e waiting in a asteroid belt clocked for my pray ambushing them so to speak.

Tristan is the ship for new Gallente pirates. Get the basic pirate skills down and go have fun. You will lose alot of ships. Learn from your mistakes.

The tristan is a cool ship, it's great fun to solo pvp in, although sadly a bit slow You may as well have plenty of practice in this ship untill you have enough for a few thoraxs. Don't totally discount the destroyers, but the thorax wins my heart every time much more than the vexor It was just built for pirats

No! Skip the tristan.
The tristan is a bad ship for a newbie. It requires higher fitting skills than the incursus, and it requires missile skills(something most gallente ships do not use- certainly not skills for a noob to waste time training).
The incursus is easy to fit, and it is a much better tackler.
There is nothing wrong with the incursus, it is a great frig. You might even kill a rifter or two if you are lucky.
However, I'd recommend that you get into a Vexor as soon as you can. Use small blasters, mwd/web/scram, small t2 repair/1600 plate/2xEANM or EANM & DC. A plated vexor is a very nice ship for cheap, low sp solo piracy. Use t2 light and medium drones for best results.

Yeah. A former corpmate used to kill noobgriefers with a smartly fitted ibis in the noobsystems complexes. They always cried when their frigs/cruisers blew up :D

how does this tristan fit sound? I'm wondering if I'll do enough damage.
2x ion blasters x thorium charge 1x light scout drone 2x nos 2x power diagnostic 1x AB 1x Small Armor Rep I couldn't justify the cost for T2 since I'm probably going to lose it 1x warp scram 1x cargo scanner

If you meant between osmeden and orvolle I will tell you that oulley and aubenall or ok for pirating. Be warned, the carebears that travel that route are well versed in staying safe and scouting as they travel that route daily, you will have to be a very fast and witty tackler to score anything. Also, a couple of the corps in the neighborhood don't take kindly to pirates and respond quickly with a great deal of force if they are agressed. If you score, I would suggest not sticking around to let your luck ride.
Good luck m8!!!
