What this thread doesn't really point out is that new guys are COMPLETELY helpless in the face of anyone who has gotten in a couple months or more of training skills.
Read or ignore, I really don't care as I will not be around to see your reply
The ONLY chance a rookie has at all is running into a non-Rookie who just got wiped out by another non-rookie. Since there is no place at all to be able to get those couple of months worth of training in without getting ganked or simply not playing the game at all (the buy 2 accounts method where 1 trains and one funds training).
I might point out that nowhere in the EVE tutorial does it clearly point out that you will be player killed by multi-year vets grouped together and bored so fast that you will not even have time to see what their name was because they will pod you too and you'll be back in the station in about 2 seconds. There's your 14 day trial up in smoke! I think you should really update your tutorial so that just after the first ship is awarded the player gets GANKED. Frankly, the current one does not represent the *real* game.
People call carebears whiners, but at the very same time, as evidenced in this thread, when the carebears actually turn around and stand up, it is the sucky PvP folks who run and hide, because for the majority of them, they have no guts and hide from real fights instead feeding on newbies who have no chance at all. In the real world, we call them Bully's and protect our kids from them. In EVE, you train them ...
Cheers to the original author for a least sticking up for new folks!
BTW: I am not a whiner, I was POD'd on Sat after flying through a .5 warp gate, 1 jump away from my 3RD agent (you know, the 3rd is the first one you go to after the tutorial and the 10 mission set) who is in a .5 system. There were at least 4 of them camping the gate. I am not a bad player as I have a cruiser, a industrial and a couple of frigates fully decked out and lots of ISK given the very short time I have been playing, but I CLEARLY see that no matter what I do, no matter how good I am, I can do NOTHING at all against the weekend ganker gangs who sit on the other side of star gates.
Unlike other MMORPGs where people can actually level and catch up to somewhat par, this game FOREVER handicaps new folks who were not in at the start with multiple year skill deficits.
The ONLY chance a new player has to get in is to BUY ISK (which is a banning offence) and use the money to buy maximum implants to cut that multi-year gap down in time and of course this means you are not actually playing the game, you are sitting in a dock and training for months because you would be nuts to risk getting POD killed with that kind of investment in implants.
These are the facts, I have spoken with my wallet and cancelled my account 2 days after activating. Too bad frankly, as I took the chance and activated the demo a couple of days early. I was REALLY enjoying the game too but I play to have fun, not to be ganked.

Wow.
I mean, WoW. Must have been the place where you come from.
I won't deny, the tutorial needs to be updated with the fact that you will get ganked, and how to survive it at least at a very basic level. However, this is not a PvE game, prepare to be shot and when you die, deal with it. We all have to.

If this person were playing CS he would be wondering why the terrorists and counter-terrorists can't all just get along.

this has to be one of the most confused whine threads i've ever seen. i tryed to read most of it, correct language usage made it hard in places.
if i've read this correctly, a slightly newish player is complaining that there is nothing to help new players. then other new players say similar things, but then say that older players are nothing but bullies?
have you ever stopped to think after several years of hard work, meeting new friends, and accomplishing something that you might need/want something else to do besides explain (For the 2,201,365,120,125 time) why not to do something, like jump a lowsec gate, after it's extremly apperent what might happen if you're not prepared for it.
why should you be handed anything? pleanty of us have made it because we worked hard, we read and asked a lot of questions. now we set the rules in our space. instead of saying that you've "researched it" and "it need's to be fixed", why don't you freakin do something instead of complaining. like the others that have mined, built your ships and mods, reasearched bpo's, and then killed you agian have done. i don't like grifing myself, and i dislike just as much people that whine first, complain second, and don't actually do anything but that. you should be thanking those people that hunt you down in empire for teaching you something.
you obviously not "researched" or "looked" hard enough for new player help. there are lots of corps and alliances that will help you. this isn't eve-solo.com. you need friends just like in real life. either you want a quick fix/easy or you're flamebait that didn't do enough research about a game, then want's to change it to be the game "you" want it to be.

Seconded. I don't know what it is with people these days, constantly demanding moral clarity, constantly seeking reasurrances they are doing the right thing. Weak. This is entertainment.

Take away the ability of warring corps to group together.
Would probably help a little towards getting ppl to socialize.

Eve's "mechanics" are not set to aid the bad guys, they're set to aid EVERYONE. EVE is the one game where they don't hand you everything on a platter and tell you to go do something with it, in EVE, you have to go find the platter and add your own **** to it. Police Force? There's concord. Want one in low-sec? Make a corporation dedicated to protecting whatever sector you want patrolled. There. Happy? This is EVE, not Carebear online. ------

Eve isn't really like that at all, one ship can do multiple things, this isn't WoW

If EVE doesn't favor bad guys, then why are there so many of them?
EVE caters to bad guys (with Low Sec) and it caters to Carebears (with high sec).
I mean really, with things as they are (what Ive seen from 2 months of playing this game), you NEVER have to even consider leaving High sec if you don't want to, a carebear isn't perfectly safe, but no one has screwed with me for 6 weeks in high sec, where as I got multi ganked just peeking my head into low sec before that.
Wouldn't a better situation be one where EVERYONE in "Empire" faced certain risks even in 1.0 systems, but where player pirates also faced "pressure" (for instance like I mentioned in another thread, maybe roving NPC police or whatever) no matter where they were?
The line between safe and lawless is WAY to Stark in EVE, and that creates some less-than-fun consequences IMO

Its kinda funny tho really when i first started playing there was no warning if you were leaving hi sec, now days you click on that .4 gate and hit activate it even warns you you could die.
Granted my noob days i often ventured into .4 systems never got ganked never really had issues with anyone but i did not spend tons of time in them, more like to pick something up, or travel somewhere not going 10 jumps out of the way, or i got a bad currier agent decided it would be funny to send the noobi to .4 for the delivery.
But those warnings you get now days telling you "hey this could be a bad idea" you ignore them you darn well sure better be able to afford to replace what you are flying.
