The American in me got excited picturing a rowdy game of football with people charging across the field slamming into each other causing broken bones and assorted ailments that would be regaled around the forums for months to come.
Then I realized that you're probably talking about that European thing you like to call "football" and my excitement went rather tepid.

At least in our version of football we actually USE our feet - hence football. Your version is much closer to handsball than football

Yes, it's a silly name and I have no idea why we call it that. But it is what it is, so I have no choice but to live with the pain of knowing that my people have made a suboptimal choice of name.
Soccer is boring, Baseball is great (7th inning stretch with a round of pitchers and your buds!), and Football is not so bad either. Hockey is okay (go Fighting Sioux!). Roller derby's good and exciting! Never did understand NASCAR.
Your soccer is the original football (you twisted the name)
Your football is the original rugby (you added helmets & shoulders not to hurt urselves)
Your baseball is the original oina (a medieval romanian game)

americans dislike football..(the proper one..not the girly padded thing) because ther so damn rubbish at it.....in fact there rubbish at most established sports..thats why they invented there own...so they would be better than everyone else at them!

I lol'd. Ever seen how many players get hurt even with the pads? The pads are there to prevent players from getting killed.
