Just wondering if this area of production is already more than covered by other sellers?
just that i paid 290k for my merlin and worked out that thats quite a bit higher than the cost. (unless my calculations arent very good which is quite possible lol)
Maybe i was ripped off?

they usually go for 180-200K if im not mistaken, so YES you got ripped off, but the average price is 180-200K which is a little higher than the costs i presume. not much though ----------------------------------------------- Watch my leet everchanging dynamic signature \o/ http://www.games-on.nl/~cu2moro/evesigphp/icon.php?blaat=.GIF |

The market for Merlin class frigate is pretty stretched then as it is. If you paid 290k for one; yes you paid more than market average but big deal? Now if you paid a million for a Merlin then I would say yeah it might be something to look into.
The reality is that people who manufacture stuff do so with much greater efficiency than most veteran players even. PE5 takes a while to get. They also refine ore with 0% loss. So as a noob it doesn't behoove you to get into the market and try to compete against them cause you will loose in the end, IMHO. When you have those skills trained then by all means. Though I would make sure Manufacturing is what you want to do because that's all your skills are going to be going towards. You are going to suck as a pvp fighter. Now even manufacturers are having to specialize even further for the tech 2 skills that are required.
So in short paying 90k over the market standard is not a big deal. That money 'may' have been a big deal for you to earn but then that should just teach you to shop around with alts and such instead of just depending blindly on your particular home market to be fair and reasonable. ah, Fujiko... |

I've found that frigate construction is one of the best ways for people to get involved with production.
You can get a much higher markup on frigates than other ships. Most people aren't willing to travel far to save themselves 50k-100k on a frigate. I've regularly sold frigates for 200k-300k. I usually make 100% profit (or more) on frigates. You just have to find a region that doesn't have a lot of them for sale.

Edited by: Araviel on 05/02/2004 23:13:35 Edited by: Araviel on 05/02/2004 23:13:09 frigg and frigatte equipment builders are highly needed in the outer regions,. i hate it when i have to travel in to empire space just to get a new kestrel and equipment for it.. i would be happy to pay 500k for a kestrel just to avoid having to make 15 jumps.

I'd love to come into the outer regions and set up but the couple of times ive been there i got podded - being a fairly inexperienced player - but im learning!
Plus i only really know the inner regions and some areas off of the highways and im under the impression there are several wars going on that im not entirely able to follow so would find myself stumbling around getting podded for being in the wrong place
Im up for giving it a go - the only thing that concerns me is when i look at the map with how many players are in what systems the 0.0 space always looks pretty sparse - are there enough players wanting the ships? I got the impression that only the big corps are in 0.0 and they supply a lot themselves.

Well, though 290k is a steep price for a Merlin, 'ripped off' may be a bit steep of an assumption.
I'll happily buy a Rifter (or any other Frigate I need at the moment) for a steeper price when this means I do not have to travel 10+ jumps to get it in another Region for a better price. The time it costs me to make those jumps are better spent on Missions or rat hunting which netts me more than the ~100k I'd safe on the Frig.
