- Contracts does not support everything, the forums do.
-> Super Capitals, Shares, Services, BPCs and BPOs.
- Contracts locks your ISK in escrow.
- The forums let you set a reserve higher than a starting bid.
- The forums let you set a sniper rule.
- The forums are viewable out of game and during downtime.
- The forums allow you to refuse certain bids.
- The forums maintain a price history.
- You can bid on the forums from anywhere, to bid on a Contract you need to be in that region.
The price for this is an idea of your own for why the forums should be re-opened. And yes, I thought I'd get in on the spam, I felt left out.

So that I can advertise my research and financial corporations.
The alternative I am looking at now, is anchoring 3,000 secure containers around Eve advertising the service. I will begin this job in 2 weeks.

Edited by: Saladin on 21/08/2007 15:47:35 I've got two more for you Ray:
1. No window shopping. I have to know the module I want before hand, and there is no way I am going to know every variation of Pith and Gistii 2. Selling illegal items (boosters, tags...etc) cant be done on contracts. ----

one more...
We are all going to not use contracts and flood to another 1 or few sites doing the same thing. Their server bandwidth gets ate, they need more funding, they get google ads. We get a WTS/WTB forum surrounded by Isk seller ads tempting the masses. Oh joy.

Another reason.
Because we, them, their brother, son, sister, mother and their cap ship flying dog, won't stop protesting in their forum thread until they reverse their decision.
If your ****ed off by this, don't just post once. Release the inner rant at this insanity. And encourage others to do the same.

there is no exact ending time for auctions given. it only says i.e. "less than a day" which could be everyting between 1-24 hours...in forums auction starter can post exact ending time...

Thanks for your ideas, keep them coming. And lets keep this thread constructive. Every point outlined in the OP is a valid reason for re-opening the Trade Forums.

Summary point:
The forums are a superior method of trading than the contract system. Giving players an inferior means of playing a major part of the game is poor customer service, and bad business.

did anyone mention that shares are not tradeable on contracts?
i would assume trading shares is encouraged, based upon the eve-hired economist- dr eieio's single post on eve-o in the past two months.
although, maybe this is the devs' way of saying they don't want to trade shares and they want to quash the publicly traded share business.
although, in hindsight, there's two things that eve gained TONS of free press about 1-the eib thing 2-the thing you get banned from eve-o for mentioning.
so maybe they don't want free press?
too bad goons don't use the buy/sell forums. i mean, i'd hate for anyone to mention to goons that forums they may/may not use on eve o are getting trashed for no damned reason.
i mean, i'd HATE for all the goons to post and say "what the **** is wrong with you people", or any alliance post and ***** about it.
that'd be sad. i just hope something like that doesn't happen |

Nice.
You can't make public contracts for ephemeral things, like supply contracts or non-game item services (signatures, banners, hosting services, information (scouting, market analysis, moon surveys)).
Forums create public accountability. Contracts create personal accountability.

If they do this everyone should just post all their sell orders in general discussion, just so ccp realises it caused them more work to close then to maintain

well i, as a carebear have been really annoyed with the seemingly flippant changes that CCP has been trying to force down our throats the last month or so. ****ed off enough that I have had to remove myself from the game completely, so as to allow my head to cool.
Today thinking that I had cooled down enough to be civil again, I decied to check the forums to get back up to speed. To my great "pleasure" I find that CCP is continuing down the path of "carebear annoyance" that has been ****ing me off since early July.
I for one hope all of you enjoy this new loving that CCP has bestowed upon us, and hope you all enjoy the position, I know I do.

Looks like CCP has pruned that thread quite a bit. I looked at it 40 minutes ago, saw a half dozen posts about the trade forums, posted one myself, and now they're all gone.
unless I have some kind of super-cache-of-death problem, which I don't think I do.
