So I just got enemies abound 2/5, which a courier mission for like 1m3 of stuff. While transporting it in a shuttle I went afk for something like a minute to do something on another account, and I returned to find my shuttle dead to gate rats, with the mission item destroyed.
Everyone laugh at my epic fail.
Ok, done?
Right: My question, which no one in corp seems to be able to answer, is will the item respawn in the pickup station after tomorrow dt (just like a combat mission will respawn) or should I reject the mission now?

No, but you might be able to "buy" the item needed from the market or contracts.

Make a petition that you are unable to complete the mission. they more or less automatically reset your mission. you will not get the standing loss, but you will have to re roll the mission to get an other one.

I think I got you beat this time.
Just a half hour ago I dozed off during a l4 mission. Lost a t2 abaddon.

not that epic to be honest. an epic fail would be logging off your titan character and have an aggro timer

Although a day late :/ the mission will only reset during DT IF you DIDNT get the objective Complete message. After you get mission complete then its game over.
There is a work around which borders on the exploit route :/
: Keep the mission open and speak to another agent. When you get the mission that you need to again from the second agent collect the item and wait till that one respawns. then you now get 2 items so you can complete the mission with both agents.

Bleh, for the record it didn't respawn.
To the poster above: Thanks, I know this is what happens with combat missions where the item is in some structure or NPC in space, but with courier missions (where the item pops up in a station) it seems it is not.
I checked market (item not listed) and contracts (none for that item) already unfortunately.
I thought about a petition, but I decided I wanted to retain the right to have a go at people who petition ship losses they know weren't due to lag or bugs. Would just seem like cheating (which it is really :p)

Heh, yea a while ago I went afk outside a station in low sec and lost a T2 Raven. My poor afk-abused mission alt :(
