Long Post warning
I came to Eve about 3-4 months ago. I heard about the game, long ago when PC Gamer did an article about a year long planning effort where someone stole a big ship, destroyed another 1 and ruined a corp. I remember thinking, dear lord that sounds kick ass. However I had a jacked char in Lineage II and never left.
I got to Eve, fell in love with the game. People have different reasons, but this game is an absolute blast, and overall the age group makes it a hella lot better.
What I don;t get (and I will get flamed for this) is all the endless whining on the boards about how bad and evil CCP is for "screwing" up Eve. Yea things get changed people dont agree with, but CCP isn't out to get everyone and "ruin" the game. I have never seen Devs take such a massive interest in the forums and actively respond to player questions. They actually make an effort to try and explain decisions, reasoning, and interact with their playerbase. This is the only MMo I've seen where they really spend the time to do that.
CCP won't ban macros.... that is seriously amusing. This conspiracy theory extends to every single MMO out there. You can go on any boards, and pretty much find people saying the same thing. Business wise, it makes sense for them to be banned. CCP gets 20$ per new activation instead of 15$ per month. They would make more. They probably don't have 5000 GM's lying around to answer all the regular petitions, and the macro petitions. They prob have like 5 who get thousands of petitions a day, for everything going, and then have to moderate forums where ppl spend half their time screaming at CCP about being in league with macros and the like.
Now I know this will get a few people saying it's nice to see a good CCP post, and most people will flame me, call me a noob, stupid, ******** monkey, and enlighten me as to how I am entirely wrong and CCP will cause Armageddon without Bruce Willis to save us. To those people, go play Archlord and look at customer service, or Lineage 2 and tell me me what rules those servers.
To CCP and the rest of the playerbase, thanks for a great game and actually keeping Eve fun.... Boost Amarr!

I got this far..
It's called a public discussion forum which means anyone at all with the slightest self centered agenda to push can come here and post metagaming political propaganda to their hearts content.. 
Solution: Be aware of how the game works and its underlying mechanics and you'll never be submarined by some hack with something smelly to sell..

CCP overall did a good job with Eve (duh otherwise i wouldn't be playing it at all). That being said there are more then enough things I don't agree with  .

CCP are doing a good job but as a community we will demand better and better until it is perfect. Complaints (called whines by parties against the change) will always be around until Singularity is renamed to perfection

The mostly satisfied to happy crowd don't post messages.
It's tinfoils, whiners, unlucky ones etc... that do most of the posts - and therefore you get a lot of whining/bashing posts.
The rest is mostly busy in game.
If the bashers/whiners were representative - eve would have been empty and deserted long ago.

Take it from an ex-Star Wars Galaxies player... EVE is one of the best developed and runned games in the MMO industry. SWG got unsolved bugs from launch. Its even more lag and the gameplay was made horrible for greed reasons from Sony's side.

The exception to this rule would be Vanguard. Lots of hate on forums and sudenly the servers were a desert.
Back on topic, thank you CCP for the only mmorpg worth playing on the market

I never get the whole anti CCP schnit either, nor the tinfoil hattery.
I rarely get why people shout "sort the lag" without giving anyy suggestions as to how.
I never get why every change is called nerf.

I would say that CCP are one of the better companies when it comes to customer support at least the devs communicate with the player base.
For such a relatively small company CCP do a fantastic job. I know of a certain multi-billion dollar games publisher who ignore their player base and don't give a ****, *cough* úA *cough*

I think the whining is an accute affliction of nostalgia. I too wondered the same as you when i was a newbie. I'm still in love with EvE and every time I log in it's and adventure.
The odds on me being here are rather slim evolutionary speaking, yet in the infinite bounds of probability my being here is a certainty. |
