I have just gained perfect refine with CPF and have spent this morning scouting out neighbouring belts in solar systems with CPF stations so I can travel and mine different areas as I slowly make some ISK before travelling into lower sec with my corp.
However after a discussion in local today im rather confused as to what I should still be mining. I have always assumed that rich ore types such as solid pyrox is better to mine rather then just "pyrox" but today I was told otherwise.
Anyone got any feedback on this? I assumed my methods of mining rich ores first was better, at the same time as slowly moving down the level of security areas rather then just staying in 10.0/0.9/0.8 areas mining veldspar and scordite.
Im currently in a 0.7 but moving to a few 0.5's until I can afford to venture into lower mining rich plagio and pyrox roids.

the "rich", "massive", "fiery" or whatever ALWAYS yield more minerals when refined than the basic stuff, but basic scordite can be better than dense veldspar, that will depend on your mineral prices.
Some of the basic stuff sells better if you sell the ore unrefined, either because the traders face less competition and thus offers lower prices, or because the basic variant is used for missions.
There is a storyline which requires 10.000 omber for instance, that often fetch premium prices if sold unrefined at the right stations.

based on the Matari Mineral Index - 7-day mineral prices I believe the order for ore is
Arkonor Bistot Crokite Gneiss Dark Ochre Hedbergite Kernite Spodumain Hemorphite Plagioclase Scordite Omber Pyroxeres Veldspar
there is so little of the +5% and +10% vs the reguler variety that the time you would spend looking for it would be better spent mining the regular yield type.
As a Hulk pilot myself though, I just start at one side of a belt and mine until the belt is no more (about a day with two pilots)

Yes ofcause the +5 or +10% ore is best to mine, im sure the guy telling you othervice is just trying to make you leave the good ore for himself.
But about what ore is best to mine then Scordite is the best low end ore to mine followed closly by plag.
try out this Ore calculator to see what is best to mine with todays mineral prices

The only time that plain ore is better than the fancy ore is when you are selling it to mission runners for a huge markup. Mission runners get storyline missions that require plain ores. The dense, solid or whatever won't work for them. Mission runners are also willing to pay a premium for that ore if it is located where their storyline agent is, they will make more money by purchasing the ore and getting back to their missions.
Otherwise you will always be 5% or 10% better off mining the fancy ores.
I recommend using this site to compare ore values. Remember to compare the value per volume, not per unit. Your lasers mine at a fixed volume per cycle, and your effort in hauling is based on the volume.

A DAY? I can clear a full belt in about 3 hours or so. But, then again, I have Exhumer 5, and my alt has director 4. But, you should be able to clear it quicker then that.
But, Don't worry about the exact kind. Just plant yourself in a belt, and go to town. I look at it this way. I'll use it sooner or later.

Also, take in account Quanity of ore. Although a jetcan of Veldspar isn't worth as much as a jetcan of Kernite, You can often get 2-3x more veldspar in the same amount of time as 1 jetcan of kernite (due to overmining, lost cycle times, and moving between belts)
