Edited by: LordInvisible on 23/08/2007 11:23:03 hey hey..
It happend to me to. Long story short: I have wardeced one empire corp. I am one-man corp, looking for some pvp (have enough of blobbing and 0.0 POS warfare!). That corp, lets called them TWINS seems rich, so i expected to get some nice fights.
BUT, they "hire" merc corp, 5o5 - Save our Souls to defend them from me. OK i say, more targets, by the age i thought they were somekind adults and respecatble PvP opponents. Here i was wrong.
Well, they are that kind of corp, that do not engage in 1:1 or 2:2, no, if they engage, they for sure have at least 3 more ppl ready to log in or in next system. But anyway. i challenge this dude Uagen to 1:1, he in maelstrom, me in dominix. Station is too hot, so i call him to planet(he was in larger gang already, so SS wouldnt do anybetter.) He agrees and warps to me. Well, he melted my shields in few seconds (damn DPS monster) while my EM sentries didnt do **** to him. I say ok to my self, so u lost another dominix. But them i finnaly manage to orbit him and he started to miss me, alot..my tracking disruptor seemed valuable module suddenly:D
So, i kite him, NOS him, web him, his shield start to fail. I never understood, char this old, and he didnt engage my sentries, sitting in his optimal (noob, i guess..). So, i get him to armor, when in scanner suddenly shows up two BS, tempest and something else..beeing carefull and not scramed:) i warp away, leaveing my sentries there in second when two of his mates come to finish me off..
to be continued.. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edited by: LordInvisible on 23/08/2007 11:22:25 After a little smack in local from them, they see tracking disruptors not qualifying for PvP solo module and suddenly i'm noob using PvP modules in PvP..
OK, i get along, that 1,5mil loss in drones isnt too big.
but it isnt over yet!
Today, I undock at the station, seeing one sleip there. He locks me, but doesnt engage. OK, i say, maybe he wanst to have a decent fight. I engage him and then..ffs..I DC :(. OK, i somehow manage to get to black screen of death and wake up in front of the station in last third of my armor, seeing 3 ships blinking red in overview..here goes my ishtar:(
His excuse was: Well, u could have asked for 1:1..
OK..then, after 15 minutes i ask him for 1:1. He agrees, and suddenly there is 6 war targets in system, including uagen. I was so bored, that i agreed anyway. I got him into my gang and then undock to warp us to SS.
Outside i see Uagen in scimitar, just read to help him..i ask this dude wtf, and he says that this is only for fear factor..yeah right..
I select to warp us to SS which is inline with another SS, just in case.. I warp us there, his sleip, more agile, warping first. As i engage warp, probably his mate tolds him that i was in warp, and suddenly he drops out of the gang:) how nice.. When I drop out off warp i warp to next SS, beeing at full speed, that is no problem. When i warp off, he suddenly dissapers from local.
OK, back at station, safe and sound, i engage in little smacking in local. They explain me, that he DC too (yeah right..) When i warp to station, there was that scimitar, alligned in my SS direction. I engage him, seeing nobody around, and suddenly from same point in space, there comes sleip (DCed one..) and crow..ofc, they dont know nothing about it..
This is it, they thought me a lesson, and u should know too..
OFC, when they find out this topic, they'll smack it and call me liar, but i dont blame them, they did wrong and they need to defend themselves --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The general direction is downward.
Back in the day, dishonouring 1v1 was abhorrent. Now it is almost common practice.
I like this notion that wearing the "pierate" badge means you can do anything but dishonour ransoms and your word, ergo no 1v1 dishonours.
Wearing the "anti pierate" badge protects you from sleepless nights, and you can do anything you like to pierates. Can we call it "Vigilante" badge from now on please?
But wearing the "merc" badge means what exactly? You can do anything at all as long as you claim to be "hired" to do it?
That should be an interesting spiral.

I've had 2 1v1s with 505, and have had nothing but good sportsmanship from any of them. I won both times, if it matters. Point being, they lost a ship (second duel was friendly, no popping) and could have easily ganked me (was right out front of a station).
Gotta wonder what their side of the story is.

This doesnt suprise me tbh, Ive seen them in local and all I see is swearing in local and we are 733t in local, nothing more than jumped up goons with the attitude they take to PVP.
relentless smack in local and then they cry when they get there ass wooped from what ive seen, ive been monitoring there killboards too it seems they remove the expensive mods from there kill mails so it doesnt look like there loosing too much ISK.
And they dont post 1/3 of there losses from what ive been seeing ( I may not PVP myself but I like to keep an eye on what others do jsut out of interest).

I think a lot of corps try to wear the merc badge without really backing it up. It's a different matter to have your mate pay you a few million to having regularly prove that you are worth over 1bn isk a week for the service you provide.
As a merc my job is to complete the objectives set before me by the client. I'm not always fully happy to do this, as sometimes I feel the client could get better results with a different approach. Although I would advise him of this I have to remember that I am being paid to provide a service, and so ultimately I have to do what I have been asked to do.
I take my word, and that of my corp really seriously. The reason is that I ask for a portion of any contract fee up front. With the sums of cash that I handle the client has to feel confident that I am trustworthy, and that I won't just attempt to scam him out of his cash. For this reason everyone in the corp is obliged to honour their word, which means keeping to 1v1 and never scamming anyone.
Of course this doesn't mean that we are slack to our opponents, as that would be unfair to our client who pays us hard earned cash for our services. In these situations however if we are going to do something we'd never say we weren't going to; more likely we'd just say nothing at all.
In short we are not looking for fair fights, we are looking to complete the objectives that we are set, but when we say we will do something we will stick to our word. I'm sure many other reputable mercs feel the same way.

Edited by: Scarl3t Pimpernel on 24/08/2007 01:45:20 Edited by: Scarl3t Pimpernel on 24/08/2007 01:43:23 In piracy it counts to have a good reputation for honouring ransoms.
In industry it counts to have a good reputation for producing goods as specified and in good time.
In the mercenary line it counts to have a good reputation amongst your clients that you can fill a contract quickly and efficiently. A good reputation with your employer is more important than amongst your enemies. Some consider dishonouring 1v1's underhand and sneaky, others deem it a prudent manipulation of other player's naive beliefs. Who are we to judge each other's actions, if this tactic helps 505 fulfil their contracts, so be it.
Personification: you claim in your corp bio you bring "unbiased news." However, you also eloquently claim that 505 are getting "whooped," yet the killboard stats suggest otherwise. In Annihilative Intention, Sheriff Justice appears to be the only member to post his losses, and likewise does Tyleritus in The Phoenix Mercenaries. Thus from their killboards, they seem extremely effective, yet the majority of their losses haven't been considered. From 505's killboard, they have a 54 kills to 20 losses, suggesting they are not being whooped, but this is deviant from the OP's original claim of dishonouring.
LordInvisible: i sympathise with your position, being the underdog is ever difficult. However, your ishtar loss appears to be reasonable: you appear not to have asked for a 1v1, so the sleipnir pilot would not expect a 1v1, and would have done everything in his power to kill you. The incident involving the 1v1 trap does seem unfair and your cunning enabling you to escape is to be praised, but remember, this can be looked at from 2 points of view:
1) They are scummy cowards 2) They are ruthless operatives who would do anything, even marr a good name, to fulfill a contract. Whilst this may make them unpopular opponents, it would undoubtedly make them useful employees.
Both are valid opinions and you are likely to choose option 1 but think, if you were employing them to defend you, would you like them to do everything to eliminate a threat for you?

Yup never trust 505, they posted a video showing one of their members ransoming an IAC freighter then blowing them up "to frustrate the hell out of at least some of IAC, to come and hunt us down." Then they played the "we're pirates, pirates are supposed to be dishonorable" card.
I miss the good ol days.

TPEL's official response on our contract with 505.
Lord Invisible, you know all to well that you are not the only corp to get hit with the dec from 505... you war decced us first.. it was all cool... we were gonna just let it roll.. then Mercenary services decced us and said they were gonna take our pos unless we paid a 1 bil ransom,,, then the Phoenix Mercenaries decced us and said they were gonna ransom our pos for 2 bil.
Well, I think this is rather telling.. most industry corps will run and hide, or just disband... we chose to take a different route... We hired a very good mercenary corp to take on the 6 mercenary corps that war decced us in all... I think the Killboards of 505 speak for itself under our contract.
Our pos are safe, over 6 bil has been inflicted upon enemy that brought war unprovoked on us because they thought it would be easy money to grief a Industry corp. Not sure what else I can say but the 505 imo was worth every penny we spent.
I do not want to speak for the 505 but I think the wars are continuing on all the corps that decced us for other reasons outside our contract.

First... Can you please send me in direction of their killboard? As far as I know they have ended up in something very close to a draw when it comes to ship losses. They seem to forget most valuable kills any of us make, which of course makes them look very impressive.
Apart from that the whole war has been them station hugging in Balle (pretty funny as you hired them to hunt us down right?), with us attacking them. And the smack they always do in Local... They are a joke! No wonder they wont honour a 1vs1.

I will post the link as soon as I get home (approx 8 hours). Yes, we have been sitting in the station, because we dont engage when outnumbered 2 to 1 or 3 to 1. We have however won fights when outnumbered by one or two, which is more than you can say about 505 who generally only engage when outnumbering us enough to have a huge advantage. A good example was when they had a recon loaded with ECM in the neighbour system. They were sitting right outside the station outnumbering us by one for a good hour. When we took down their ecm ship, they suddently all magically docked.
But generally we thank them for not having to worry when running missions a few jumps away.

The OP asked for the killboards not to be posted here, so Sinjyn Sinner have got the link ingame as he requested it.
Fighting 6-7 corps at once? LOL! Either you are 1 an alt, 2 blind or 3 unable to count... They fight us, phoenix mercs and a 1 man corp... Still they are more people in their corp than we are in our entire alliance, with all the corps and alliances we are even in numbers, however they are online 24/7 which cant be said about our corps.

We arggoed them while they where repping the shields. Then 6 hours ltr after we engaged a 2nd LTD pos they war deced us. So, yea they have alot of Honor. High Sec POS repping without flagging was fixed in a patch, so it's no longer an exploit.

"Where are you guys going in your battleships?" "We are going to camp in Amamake; kill 500 carebears and 1 NPC" "Why are you gonna kill an NPC?" "See, nobody cares about the carebears!" [BEES] |

And did you agree to ewar before the fight begun?
1v1 is 1v1 no special rules (did you agree to ewar) should apply..

Pheonix = 33 Coalition of buccaneers= 25 Fusion mercenaries= 13 Annihilative intentions= 9
All together i count 80 of you and not including the two 1 man corps .. so you got the ability to out number them by more than double in fact, what you doing here again?
So you know the number of alts and inactive players in the corps? Some players have a life outside the game, and fusion mercenaries got 4 guys in the military at the moment, plus 5 totally new players who we are only teaching about game mechanics atm. Also, now that you like their killboard so much, try take a look a kills vs losses... Kills got modules included, losses only show ships, modules are erased before the mail is posted. But never mind, the war is over now.

On looking at the 505 killboard, the only person to have erased modules on his loss mails is Uagen on 2 of his Tempest losses. Moreover, judging by his loss comment, this was in the interest of preventing people from having good knowledge of his setup. Practically all the other loss mails have modules shown.
If we add 200m, no 300m...lets make it 500m to the 505 losses for absent modules, 505 still have you beaten by 2.6bn lost to 6.3bn destroyed.
Moreover, all corps suffer from inactive members, dont assume that you're the only ones. And are 50 or more of your alliance really inactive? If that is the case, then yes, you do have fewer numbers than 505, and may I suggest you do something about that, 50%+ inactivity is not a pretty number.
