Now, IĈm no pirate myself. I personally prefer running missions, and occasionally dabble in mining. Once in a while for a thrill IĈll jump into low sec space just to see if I can get lucky and actually survive. I have this friend though who thinks heĈs some kind of bad a$$ and wants to be a pirate. The knucklehead has no idea what heĈs doing though and is constantly bombarding me with questions. Why he thinks I have all the answers for him is beyond me, but anyway in the interest of shutting up this bone head maybe some of you can answer a couple questions that I can pass on to my lunkhead buddy and he can shut him up for a while and carry on with his suicide mission. I mean really the guy is about as smart as a bucket of hair and has a 1 in 100000000000000000 chance of surviving out there. He is determined though, so who am I to get in his way?
First my own question because I just know as soon as my buddy has the ISK to fit a ship he will try it. HeĈs just that kind of guy. When I am minding my own business mining some omber in lets say a 0.5 area and this guy jumps in and starts shooting at me, can I defend myself and blow this guy out of space (saving everybody a lot of trouble) or will Concord show up and scatter my own atoms across the belt for fighting back in high sec space?
Now on to dumba$$Ĉes questionsà Can private secure containers be hacked? Or is the Hacking skill set only for hacking into NPC stuff? If a secure container is shot down are the contents destroyed along with the container? How long does it take for Concord to show up if you start a fight in high sec? Are there any areas left out there in low sec space that are sparsely populated, that a fledgling pirate could try to claim and call home without having a hundred other pirates constantly swarming in on him on a daily basis? Is it even possible for a solo pirate to stay alive and make a living out there?
I told this buddy of mine heĈs an idiot and to just join a corp. He thinks heĈs invulnerable though and can do it on his own. I donĈt think anybody would have him anyway. He is as dumb as a rock after all.
Anyway, that should be enough to get the guy off my back for a while and out there getting shot down.
Thank you for listening, and any help you can provideà.

your buddy is a few trit short of a full hold. but i can answer some of your questions.
in 0.5 and higher concord shows up almost immediately and will blow a big hole in your ship if you shoot first. however you have the right to defend yourself. as soon as somebody shoots they get all flashy red and anyone can target and shoot them.
as for solo pirating, it can be done, but its a lonely and miserable existance unless you have a LOT of isk and the skills to survive.
my advice to both of you is to come join Aurora Security in solitude and I can show you how to conduct combat in the proper fashion, with honour.

Thanks for the answers to a couple of my questions, and your offer of in-game assistance. Solitude is about 50 jumps at least half of which is through hostile territory from where we call home at the moment. I'm not sure I could get there in one piece, much less my brainless buddy. lol I may shoot you an eve-mail anyway to get some info about your organization and all that.

Randall, Pierre could give you some good training. Give him a go. I'm sure he or one of his corp will escort you through hostile space. Its not hard to get through if you know what you're doing.
They are collecting some good guys together you could learn a LOT!
p.s good luck with the corp Pierre.

Edited by: Lupus Y0nderb0y on 23/08/2007 16:23:10 ive started solo pirating 2 weeks ago, (im pretty new to the game, my char can only fly frigs by now) and had much fun with it...
ive lost a few ships, ive blew up a few ships, my wallet is up to 40 mill by now so i havent much problem to afford a blown up rifter (i usually fit them with named stuff so im up to 1 mill per ship)
it can be fun if ur a casual player, my job do not allows me to play much at this time
ive specialized myself in to loottheft that means im searching the belts in low sec for blown up medium+ wrecks, loot them and put the good stuff on rens on the market... almost every second ship gave me a 2mill+ item, its really nice
one tip for beginner pirates from a beginner pirate is, do not look for a fight (as i did for the first few days and got bored very fast), just do what do u think pirates in eve do (scam, steal, whatever) and the fights will come to u, one way or another

To anwser your questions directly...
1. No they cannot be hacked. Yes some NPC stuff can. 2. You blow up a secure can, nothing is left. 3. Concord usually shows up in 5 seconds or less. 4. There are plenty of empty low sec. areas. Only problem is that they are EMPTY so pirates dont hang out there. 5. Its possible to start off as a solo pirate but very hard. Its best to hook up with a pirate corp first and learn the ropes then move out on your own.

I could ask for more direct answers. Thank you!
As to answer 4... Would those "Empty" areas be good for a "Lone Wolf" kind of player to do some ratting and maybe a little mining without too much harassment? And are they fairly easy to find, or will it take some risky searching?

finding any area that you are looking for is your map in game map. use it to see how many peeps are online in any system, how many kills or jumps or pod kills in last hour or 24 hours. use it to find number of station and facilities at those stations etc. very handy for planning routes avoiding conflict or to find targets.
full training in this sort of thing will be provided at Aurora Security _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-

*edited... Man I need to learn how to type! lol
Yes, they are good for mining/ratting and if you get off the "beaten path" then you would have little to no interference from pirates. The problem is most of the low sec systems lining the empire systems have lots of pirates. Those first 3-4 systems entering low sec. will be the most dangerous.
Like Pierre said above, use the ingame Eve map to pick out some places that you may want to look at. Then check population in that area, kills, pod kills, jumps in the last hour/24hours. This can all be done with the ingame map.
Shoot me a mail or convo me if you want to chat or have more questions. Im usually on between 02:00 and 07:00 eve time.
