I ran some statistics on the map a while back. Don't remember which to systems were the furthest appart, but I think they were 42 jumps between them.

if you tell your autopilot to 'low sec only' you will be surprised at the length it will put you to to get somewhere

Although not the "center" of the galaxy, Oursuleast is pretty well located at a meeting point of all 4 empires, and its right by Concord space, which Is also very close to the 4 points area...

At one point I believe Yulai pretty much was the centre of the universe. There was a "highway" system in place, and Yulai was where they all met. It of course became a trade hub. Nowadays that's Jita's role, though I don't know if it can really be considered in the centre.

Why, any system that I am in is the centre of the Universe silly. How could you not know that? All other systems really are totally unimportant.

Well I finally got my Map Statistic DB updated with Rev 2.2 data. (I hadn't updated it since the drone regions were added.) I didn't include Jove space in these statistics, as it would make no sense to do so.
Here is a statistical report on which systems are closest:
The average distance between systems is 36.90
Kaaputenen is the most central with an average of 26.54 jumps to get to any system.
Average distance between systems within secure space is 18.98 jumps. (By secure I mean the systems accessable by high security only routes.) The most central system in this category is still Kaaputenen with an average of 12.53 jumps.
Average distance between systems within empire space is 20.06 jumps. (By empire I mean high and low sec, but excluding null sec.) The most central system in this category is Amarr with an average distance of 13.36 jumps. Kaaputenen dropped down to an average of 14.06 jumps.
As Jita is the system that most people seem to be interested in here are its statistics. Jita has an average of 27.31 jumps to get to any system. Average distance from Jita to any empire system is 15.86 jumps. Average distance from Jita to any system accessable via high security only route is 15.49 jumps.
Here is a statistical report on which systems are furtherest:
The most remote system in the game is E7-WSY with an average of 61.95 jumps to all other systems. The longest route in the game is from 373Z-7 to either SVB-RE, 3KNA-N, or BU-IU4, any of which is 99 jumps.
The most remote system in empire space is Gererique with an average of 42.50 jumps to the other empire systems, assuming all routes avoid null sec. The longest route through empire space is from Gererique to Moh at 59 jumps without passing through null sec.
The most remote secure system is Jorus with an average of 31.58 jump to get to the rest of secure space. The longest route through high sec space is from Jorus to either Bashyam or Balanaz both of which is 51 jumps.

Matalino, I plotted a route, from lowsec in Khanid to Molden Heath, only lowsec jumps - 108 jumps in total. |

That is quite possible. None of my statistics exclude high sec. I could create a set of statistics for that, but it would take a few hours. Let me know what the stats are that your interested in (ie null sec only, low sec only, or null+low) and I will see what I can come up with.
