I declared war on a RL friend of mine because he was always bragging how uber he was in eve and how he could own me in a fight. His corp was composed of over 40 members, i was just a one man privateer operation. After a few weeks and a few kills on my side, (nothing major just a few frigs and cruisers), i started getting smack from the other members in his corp. I guess things got out of hand and i wanted revenge real bad against those carebearin' smackin' 'tards so i contracted a merc corp to blow their POS, which they had been building over a six month period. As you can imagine it came as quite a shock to the members and immediately the smack stopped, my friend quit the game, stopped talking to me and the corp has all but disbanded. I kind of feel guilty but tbh i can't stop laughing! 
Would you of done the same?

To add insult to injury...go to your friends house...give him a hug...and in the best Stewie from Family Guy ipersonation ask: "Wold you like a soda...hu, big guy.."
Then ask your friend for all his eve stuff or the account.
J/K....it is pretty funny when someone leaves because of something like that...just try to coax your friend back...tell em that if he had not said the things he did...he wouldn't have pushed you to extremes

Actually the next day i put a sticky note on his computer saying 'Can i have your stuff'.
When he found it, he wasn't laughing.

Sounds more like something you would do to an enemy not a friend tbh. So no pat on the back from me, if you were a true friend you would have acted in a friendy manor about his braging. You know like just ignore it and act like an adult?

Well you could have challenged him to a duel on the terms that if you win he can no longer brag how much better he is then you. You know treat you with some respect as friends often do. Just an idea but I guess its 2 late for ideas eh?

You say he was a RL friend? I cant help but wonder if he was a RL friend why did he allow an online game to come between the friendship you both had?
All I can think is that the friendship you both had wasn't a very strong one because if it was you wouldn't of allowed an online game to break the friendship up.
On what you did, well I guess yo did what you felt you needed to do to stop not only your so called friend but all of his corp walking all over you, and lets face it he did start the smack talking didn't he? So he got what was coming to him and you might just have done all those people a favour in showing them what can happen when they start picking on a player that they think is weaker than them...

As for the friend thing, how are you defining the word? My RL friends and I smack talk but it's never actually abusive. It sounds like your pal was a world class ass hat if he was constantly telling you how much better he was than you. Seriously his e-peen must strech all the way from a to z.
If this guy really is a dear associate of yours than he should man up and realize it's a game. When stuf that's bad happens in a game it's funny. You don't throw a fit break your toys and run to mommie. Unless you befriended an eight year old, then shame on you for picking on kids.

My ex-CEO (RL friend) sold me out to a corp that had
declared war on us. He had begged me to join to teach his
(merc) corp how to pvp. When they couldn't handle the
heat, they offered little ol' me as sacrifice.
For revenge, I quit the corp, and ran him and his corp out of low sec.
There were 3 other corps in the region, whom I had positive standings with (RL friends own these corps as well).
When they hired said "merc corp" for a job, I reset standings with all of them, and starting attacking.
My character takes things very personally. They all hate him with a passion.
We are all still friends in RL.
You're buddy is better off leaving the game.
