I'd like to introduce my parents to SG-1. But I doubt they could sit through 200++ episodes. They're old, after all. Also, I don't think I could take that much time with them.
Given this, I'd like to know what people consider the most important episodes of SG-1? Of course, the first one, plus 100 are mandatory, and the seasons climaxes/premiers. What else?
I used to get It.
Then It changed.
Now I don't even know what It is.

Start with the movie, move into the series and stay clear of Atlantis. God damn I hate Atlantis.

Yeah, well, I've watched all of SG-1, plus I own the movie, except Season 10, so that's no help.
I used to get It.
Then It changed.
Now I don't even know what It is.

Start with the movie then season 1, if they like it lend them the shows so you don't have to spend time with them!

yea go with the Movie first, and while they are watching that you go and buy the dvd's of Atlantis and burn them

As for the OP: Movie first. It'll probably make shedloads more sense about a few things than any review episode ever will.

I actually preferred the first 2 seasons of Atlantis to the last 2 of SG-1. Some of the recent SG-1 episodes have been incredibly ****. Always got the 2 new movies to look forward to I guess

Lets age Teal'c 50 years onboard a timestoping/time traveling ship, cos im sure the first thing he'd want to do after 50 years of that is go on missions. Asgard take about 15 minutes to 'decide' to blow up their planet, end their race AND install all their knowledge and technology on the ship, and oh damn its now the ships achilles heel; the irony.

I was really getting into season 10 then they go and end it :| the auri (SP?) i found were a great enemy and was good to see sg-1 get there butts kicked more then they won, but now meh :x
As for where your parents should start >_> must be from season 1 or they just wont appreciate it.

A couple of family members reckon it's probably because they didn't let Ben Browder go nuts with the scripts and stuff, like he did with FarScape.

Alright, precursor, I have watched every SG-1 and Atlantis episode.
My tip would be to give them a "story arc" to sit through, a short one maybe. Pick a few replicator episodes, or the main Apophis set or some such. That way they get several seasons of juicy good story compressed purely into a few episodes, since most episodes are tangents to the main arc, basically to flesh out a whole season.
Now, what's wrong with Atlantis? I quite like it, really. Rodney is a very interesting and amusing character, far more human than Amanda who says sir a lot, sits in her lab, and refuses to go out at any point and their situation seems much more desperate at all times. I didn't like the end to season 3 so much, but hey, The Siege parts 1,2,3 were awesome, so it's a fair trade.
As for Ben Browder, I feel sorry for the guy. He was really starting to actually come into the character and be likable when they axed the show. The writers were letting him develop slowly, with the occasional Cam-centric episode (The Sodan-training one was good) so in the end, it was just bad timing.
Bah, at least Atlantis season 4 starts soon.

Yeah that was classic, but you really have to watch most of the episodes up to that point to really "get" it.

one that summarizes the backrgound pretty well though it's not an actionpacked episode is the one where they find the 5 races library and O'Neill is infested with all ancient knowledge.
Can't remember the episode name thoug. It explains the how and why of the battle against the Goa'oulds.

What's wrong with Atlantis? I like it - SG1 sucked for the first 3 seasons as well so give SG-A chance.
As for introductions to the show I'd probably stick to the pilot and other major Gua'ould/Apophis episodes - plus Window of Opportunity (and maybe episode 200 - those puppets, and invisible O'Neill!!)
If they're into it they can go back and watch the filler. No need to start with the movie, really; everything is explained in the pilot.
