Blackback Starkiel	Posted - 2007.08.26 17:09:00 - [1] Hello, fellow capsuleers. My name is Blackback Starkiel (yes, yes, I know all the jokes about my name). I'm new to the Summit uplink, but I believe the best way to start is just to jump in and say hello. Now, I'm fresh out of Caldari military school, but life in the 'verse is not only about ships, hardware and career, no matter what the state says. I'm also an amateur painter, you see. No, not only the Gallente can have artistic minds. Imagine that. ... Now, I know there are holo-artists all around, but being a traditionalist, I've actually been working with painting by hand. Nowadays, with the mainstream cyber artists outputting their mind directly onto holo-reel, I realize it might sound silly to still use a digital pen to work. But that's the way I always did it, and it's relaxing, so that's what I'm planning to continue doing. Anyway, I don't claim to be a master in any sense of the word. Painting is my hobby -- what I do when I kick back from the long runs in the capsule. But even so, I take some pride in my art and my hand-crafted imagery. Personally I feel the old ways give it a somewhat more personal and rougher touch that direct mind-painting can really convey. Well, you decide. Holographic projection of "The human pit stop" artwork on display (If you wonder who that "Griatch" guy is, that's just a nick I use when interacting with the Gallentean art underworld, never mind it). I would like to hear what you think, comments and critique is much appreciated. Are there any other budding artists out there in the capuleer community? Anyone else interested in traditional media, even? Maybe we could exchange ideas! I'm looking for contacts, so send me a beep in here or on the space lanes. ... Of course, I wouldn't be a real capsuleer if I didn't at least make a token attempt at making this a business venture -- so if you happen to like my work, consider dropping a few ISK in this poor artist's hat on your way out. Not even I have tried being that bold!). As for yourself, it is true that the traditional form is not for everybody. In this age of holographic art, it's refreshing to see someone still using older techniques. In most cases it takes more skill to create something noteworthy with pen and ink (or in this case, digital representations of such) than simply thinking of an object and having it appear.
