Downloadable file appears to be corrupt. I've tried to download it several times and it gives me error and aborts installation at different stages.
Am I doing something wrong ?

Use a good download manager like getright.

Try the full install and you donŠt have trouble with anything.

I get the same problem. I've tried the log-in on-demand patch, the downloaded patch, I've tried patching from the CD version, and I've tried the full downloaded client.
The full install thinks it is corrupt while it does its initial CRC (or whatever) check. Any patch attempts fail at res.stuff (iirc), with the corrupt error message.
Whatever the problem is, I don't think it's really corrupted files.

Just as a thought, maybe you've got a memory resident virus that's buggering up any .exe's you're downloading? The patches are .exe so.. dunno. Just a thought.

I run AVG anti virus, and I had these problems on a fresh XP install, so probably not the answer. Good call though.
I'm assuming that I will be unable to instll the new patch, so I'm going to rebuild XP on an older computer, as I suspect the problem is hardware (or driver) related.
My current PC is Epox KR8A+, XP2600, Radeon 9800XT, 1 gig DDR3200 Corsair TwinX RAM, XP Home (fully updated). I don't have a soundcard in the machine, and use the onboard AC97 (putting a soundcard in is on my list of things to try and deal with all the CTDs and random re-boots I have also been suffering).
The older PC that I will rebuild in the hope of being able to get a working version of EVE that I can patch is an XP1900 with GF4 Ti4200 running XP Pro.
Out of interest, I'll try installing EVE before runnning Windows Update, just to eliminate that as a cause of the problems.
Edit: Does using a download manager such as Getright increase the chance of getting an un-corrupted file? Does it compare what you downloaded with the source file?

Check your harddrive for corruption, run a scandisk on it. Have it check for bad sectors and fix them.

Sorry, should have said - it was a fresh XP load on a new hard disk.
Much to my surprise, the new patch auto-loaded without problem or intervention on my part. The random CTD and re-booting is still present though :-(
