Hi all,
While on my way back after a mission a player in an asteroid belt PMd' me and asked if I wanted some ammo that he didn't need. I said "sure" since I was a bit low and then as I took it this was considered "stealing" and he attacked me....I'm sure you know the rest of the story.
My questions are: 1) Yes, I know that this is a legit scam, but they offered, so why should it be considered stealing by the EVE system and not reflect on their security rating? I couldn't even put a bounty on his head and had 3million isk I was willing to pay.
2) How do I track him down? I buddied his profile, so that I can continue to tell if he is online....how can I find out where he is? I really wasn't sure which path I would take with my career, but this guy was nice enough to help me figure that out, to say the least.
3) Are there player groups that hunt people down for money and how would I find them?
Thanks. JB

1) You got took dude. Legit scam there. Bounties require -1 sec status
2) You can get "locater" agents (administrative ones are, not sure what else) that will track them down for you, and tell you what system he is in.
3) Look around for mercs, You should be able to find some to do this, but you may not be able to afford it. If they have to wardec them, your looking at a TON Of cash, If you looking to have them take him out, It just depends on where he is for that part.

Also you can use some agents to find people in game.

Thanks,
Does the player have to be online for the locator agent to find them? I asked with one of my agents that had "locate" as an option and I was told something like that person was unfindable; I figured that it meant it was because he was offline.
Thanks again, JB

He does not need to be online for your agent to find him, however he does need to be within the agents range.
AFAIK: Level 1 = Constellation Level 2 = Region Level 3 = Anywhere Level 4 = Anywhere + faster than Level 3
Edit - as a footnote, have fun hunting him down, but as soon as it stops being fun, or you get a reasonable revenge, let it go. This is a game, so keep it fun. Also CCP will not be happy with you if attempt to drive another player from the game. There is a fine line between revenge and griefing. So far you are still safely within revenge which is allowed, just don't get carried away.

DON'T PUT UP A BOUNTY - he'll get into a jump clone with no implants and get a buddy to pod him.
They'll split the bounty between them.

Edited by: Johnny Blademan on 28/08/2007 03:22:24 Thanks All,
Is the AFAIK with the levels that you mention the Agent's level? I'm still sliding down the learning curve.
I understand what you mean about the fine-line between revenge and griefing. He didn't pod me, so all I want to do is hunt him down to kill him....and I mean that in the nicest way. Baka, thanks for the tip on the bounty!

If you want the bounty symbol (the little skull) to appear on the pirate's icon in space (and the overview, etc.), then offer a very small bounty - the minimum is 5,000 ISK from memory.
This is like "Yes, you're a pirate, but you're not that good, so I'm only offering a little reward"
It also means that it isn't worth a mate podding him to collect the bounty and they have the little skull next to their name on the overview. Some wear it as a badge of honour, but I'll always take a second look if someone pops up in the grid with a skull beside their name.

Hi Baka,
Thanks for the advice! I was wondering how to get some justice when buddies could split the reward. It's a moot point since his security rating is good, but I really appreciate everyone taking the time to help me get my vengeance on!

If i wanted to be totally ebil and cruel to this guy i would take an alt, infiltrate his corp, then ask him to bring out his best fit or something expensive, then kill and pod him when he doesn't expect it hopefully with a bunch of expensive implants. Or to guarantee the podding ask him to come out in a frigate and smartbomb him. Corp members can shoot and pod each other in empire space without any consequences. Hence Concord would not interfere if you were to do this.
Otherwise you can use locator agents to track him down. But he might remember this character of yours and not let his guard down. And you can also hire mercenaries, however, you'd have to pay them a lot of ISK for spending their time tracking down a single player.

JB:
While I sympathize with your position, understand clearly that EvE is a harsh environment unforgiving of naivete.
Just have the mindset that everyone is out to get you and trust no one.
Players will gain your trust and then when the opportunity arises they will gank you for a ransom or your loot or for no reason at all other then the pleasure they gain from blowing someones ship up.
school is in session and the first lesson has been handed out.
good luck out there.

Edited by: Johnny Blademan on 30/08/2007 06:48:21 Edited by: Johnny Blademan on 30/08/2007 06:47:52 Niobius...I knew you'd troll the noob network to find out if I was whining about you. Yes, I sent you several nasty messages asking you where you were. I used all kinds of colorful 4-letter words in them too, but you never replied.....I felt so cold and lonely.
I already know where you'll be.....I know where you've been noob scamming for your last 20-kills just by going to your Corp's killboard, freakin great website BTW.
To tell you the truth, after I got done being ****ed off about having to earn enough money (AGAIN) to buy my cruiser. I realized that this ROCKS! I've only been playing for a couple of weeks and I already have a profession and a person to stalk down with a vendetta!
Puts things in perspective...and at least you didn't pod me. Anyway, it's all good and I'll kill you as soon as I get the chance.......
H$ll, what am I gonna do? Be a CareBear???? Cya in space, JB

One cannot pod in high sec space, can flagging rules do not facilitate this. -=^=-

Not true, one cannot pod in high sec without risking getting Concorded but one can still pod. Sometimes it's worth it, other times it's not.

Ah, yes, thanks for clarifying my statement there. I should have said "One cannot pod in high sec space without CONCORD intervention".
Regardless, one will not find many can/wreck baiters podding people, as that takes all the fun out of it. -=^=-

Hey all, I had a good chat with my nemesis last night and Baka, I hate to admit what you already know, but I'm waaay outa my league with Niobius and will have to be real lucky or find him AFK to kill him off. Hmmm AFK sounds promising.
Matalino - you are sooo right and I'm glad that I "got it" pretty quick. Once I accepted how things are it was pretty liberating knowing that there are such dire consequences to not paying attention. No reloading a saved game here for sure.
Tickets will be available soon. They're free! Just come take them out of my canister...it's ok I promise
Thanks all and I'll see you out there. JB
