Edited by: Dark Shikari on 28/08/2007 02:54:46 Sorry guys, I'm off...
to college! As of tomorrow morning I will be hopping on a plane to Los Angeles for my first year at Harvey Mudd.
Hopefully with the workload I'll still have time for EVE, programming x264, making cheesy videos, and whoring the forums, while actually leaving my dormroom to see that thing known as "the outside world"
I am quite excited to get off the east coast

West Coast women...yum (bit flaky for my tastes but they look good enough to make up for a lot of that). We'll never hear from you again.
Best of luck. Wave as you fly over Chicago.

You mega nerd, you.
Say Hi to everyone at CMC for me.
Let me know if you want any good info/stories about the school. Or the environment.
PS - be wary of the Claremont High Retirees.
I used to get It. Then It changed. Now I don't even know what It is.

Stories/info would definitely be useful. I've already got some but the more I know the better.

Just as a warning, and because I can only say so much here:
Back in the good old days, about 15 years, there was a prof at Mudd who thought the best results for an exam were: 1%=1 point, the rest = 0. Start hitting the books now.
I used to get It. Then It changed. Now I don't even know what It is.

What?! The famous Dark Shikari, lord and master of the forums, my idol and competitor, is only now going to college? Your forum fu is amazingly strong, young one.
In other news, I believe a former Dean (or someone else of great importance) from your school actually spoke at my graduation this year. Small world, eh? ------------ Whiners - Unite! | Posting and You Tarminic - Forum Warfare Specialist. |

Edited by: Mardonius on 28/08/2007 12:35:14 Congrats on going to college. I hope you managed to get into the college you wanted. I'm going into my final year and I'm already sad at the prospect of leaving.
It's an absolute hoot. You'll have more fun than you thought possible, probably drink more than you thought possible and make some really good mates, and with any luck you might learn a thing or two to boot. This is what happens at university. People who say that school is the best time in a person's life didn't go to university, it's that simple.

You may find that you have less and less 'nerdy' time. I'll always be an EVE player myself, but I hardly have time for it when I'm at uni. I never let my hobbies get in the way of my social life, time with friends takes priority, and this means less time for EVE while I'm at uni. But that's just the kind of guy I am.
Still, congratulations again, there are good times ahead. |

The whole excitement thing with university/college dies off after about the first month. After that you wish you were somewhere else, anywhere else really. Just whatever you do, major in something useful unless you want to spend the rest of your life doing research or teaching.
No Quantum Particle Physics or Astrochemistry, etc.
And, best advise to give frosh is: Don't leave anything valuable alone, ever. People will steal the lead out of your pencil if you give them the opportunity.

Good luck to you. What are you going to major in? Computer Science? Please tell me its not math, its absolutely a useless major. My friend majored in math and he now fixes computers and computer problems at a school (I think he is a systems analyst). To all those people who say that college is the best time of your life, thats not true in all cases. What if someone has to go to a community college in the same city they lived in for most of their life and has to live with their parents? Life sucks for that person... oh wait, I'm talking about myself

The first three weeks at university was the best. All the new people, the partying, the friendships... and the very easy exams.
But after that, you have to put in work to succeed for 3-5 years... still, I remember my university days as happy days.
By the way, darkie... collage? Ive always thought of you as a university student. :)

Edited by: F''nog on 30/08/2007 05:30:14 More helpful info:
Just to the south of Mudd, across Second Street, IIRC, is an exciting place called Scripps. It's full of what we call "females". They're soft, smooth creatures that can bring great pleasure. A word of warning: San loss is sure to follow, as they are strange and irrational.
Note: he'll be as far east of LA as possible; the county line is the street on the east of the school. So there will be little silicone there.
