Or at least that's how I feel before I actually download it. Just looking at the notes I'm all giddy with excitement that the issues I cared about most have been fixed:
1) The camera zoom level will no longer reset after you jump through a Stargate.
2) Starlight could sometimes penetrate planets, flashing and looking quite unrealistic. It will no longer do so.
3) NPCÆs will now only send messages to the local chat channel.
4) The Tactical Shield Manipulation skill now correctly prevents bleed through according to its description.
5) The NPC count in the first room of the mission Recon (1 of 3) has been vastly reduced to reduce serious lag issues that some players were experiencing in the mission. The NPCs that remain have been beefed up somewhat.
These are the issues I've been most annoyed with and I'm glad to see these fixes. In the patch notes, I still didn't see anything to set up an easy way to check how many loyalty points you have with all corporations or anything to make the map more user friendly. Oh well, 5 out of 7 ain't bad. ---

Yeah, I hope improving the map is on their list of priorities for future patches. But this patch has been dynamite.

For me its been one of the worst patchÆs yet. WhoÆs smart idea was it to remove hardware 3D sound for Vista userÆs? Everyone with vista is forced into software sound only. Passive shield tanking guide click here |

Why would anyone voluntarily downgrade to Vista anyway? ;-)
I can only guess it is because Vista completely rewrote the audio stack. It may have been a massive can of worms for CCP to rework it right now. Would be interesting to hear a developer's take on the audio situation in Vista and how it applies to EVE.
There were a lot of nice little changes in this patch, though I am annoyed that the named mining upgrades were nerfed into oblivion. I guess we can be happy they work at all now, but I do wish there had been some warning that they were going to nerf the numbers as badly as they did.

CCP didnÆt need to rework anything. Instead they put a ban on the files that lets hardware sound work in vista. It was working fine till this patch which broke it.

That would of been microsoft the developers of windows vista who have nothing to do with the development of eve that's done by ccp, ccp also have nothing to do with the development of windows vista thats done by microsoft.

curse alliance aside how about we all go back to 2003/4? improvements made over time have had a massive effect on this game no matter how subtle and just because this patch isnt 100% pvp improvments it doesnt make it a bad one.
remember the old interface before exodus? yes, lets not make improvements at all...

Check in your journal under agents, I was surprised to see how many LPs I had outside my main corp.
As for the map being friendly they did a little work on it but it up to you if its friendly enough

hi pottsey, if you are using creative sound card use alchemy http://connect.creativelabs.com/alchemy/default.aspx C/P from creative'' In Windows Vista, Microsoft has decided to remove the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) for DirectSound and DirectSound3D.Without the HAL, DirectSound on Windows Vista will be rendered in software with no advanced functionality such as EAX''

On the whole, I tend to think this is a great patch. Most of the changes are 'balances;', but they add up to a new way of doing a chunk of the game. Assuming we don't all find terrible unintended problems, I find this patch 'full of win'.
Oh, and now I can fly a Deimos again without getting ganked by frigates ;) YaY! __________________________________________________ FOLD. The Ultimate PVP. It really is Us vs. Them. clicky |

edit: it's been there for months? oh... I guess I'm blind as well as stupid... ignore me, then.
edit2: if you're using a non-X-fi card, there's hacked drivers that allow for audigy/live card users to get the same ALopen HW sound, too... google it/search the Creative forums
no sense paying 10-15 $ like Creative wants for the functionality you've already paid for.... __________________________________________________ FOLD. The Ultimate PVP. It really is Us vs. Them. clicky |

You need a high end Creative X-Fi sound card for ALchemy to work.
Vista is getting worse by the minute.

Hardware sound has been working for months. CCP added in a check to the latest patch that bans the files needed for hardware sound to work in Vista. I use useing alchemy before to get hardware sound.
Its CCP code thatÆs stoping hardware sound working so tsi there fault. It worked fine before there patch.
ôhi pottsey, if you are using creative sound card use alchemyö CCP put a ban on alchemy using the new patch.

You deserve it to be honest. This was a really good patch guys. People have been wanting you to focus on fixes for a long time, and this patch was really one of those that got the job done.
But you need to make the sound work in Vista, so get back to work. :)
