It's been a long time since I tried attacking a convoy ship.
Do they hit back hard?
How long does it take to kill one?
Is there any particular technique? I imagine you'd have to first of all be over 65km from the nearest station sentry to avoid being turned crispy after the first shot, but what about the convoy ship?
One last thing: Is scanning a ship considered to be a hostile act by eve these days?

IŠve killed few NPC convoys with an alt and they (NPC) dont hit hard, in a bb you can take out 5-6 NPC indies without having to boost your shields.
But as with risk vs reward, it applies, not much to gain over time.

I tried killing some convoys the other days and it was a big waste of time. When all the stuff was melted down/sold I made about 300,000 ISK in 40-45 minutes time. Pretty low when I can kill NPC's for more or mine some 2m worth of minerals in 60 minutes.
IMO it is not worth it unless you are fairly new and use maybe a Kestrel to kill them and a hauler to pick up, then it might be worth it.

I use my 2nd account to kill convoys while playing on my main account sometimes.
You can quite often find large modules so it's not too bad. Unfortunately, I wasn't paying attention yesterday and my 2nd account got a spanking from the sentry guns.

I kept 50km range from sentry guns, and shot down a hauler in 1 hit. Noticing that the sentry guns were chewing at me and thanks for my cl-5 large i got away with 20% armor.
Just bought the damn ship and paid a ton on repairs... ACK

Yup, 65km to be sure. I was under the impression it was 50km till I got smashed to pieces by sentry guns.
Its still worth it since you can get large mods, harvester drones etc for free! I keep hitting the biotech companies in the hope they might carry some implants....no joy so far tho I do have the worlds biggest stockpile of med and large hybrid ammo for a char with no production skills

so if you attack a convoy do you have to wait 15 mins b4 you can go near a sentry gun? or is that only if you get fired apon cause you was in range of sentry when you commited hostile act??

Ok, remain 65km+ from the sentries. Unleash furry on incoming loot boats.
Don't attempt docking at the corps stations in that system and sometimes other systems.
You may get a nasty surprise from ye' ol' sentry love.
