Edited by: Maraq on 29/08/2007 04:24:29 I'm still mining in highsec (plag and pyr mostly) and have the skills to use mining crystals. I'm wondering if they are worth using?
Also about how long do they last before burning out?

If you have the skills already, definitely use the best crystals you can fit.
Most would argue that it is not worth training the requisite skills merely for high sec ores though.
They do burn out, but you'll get dozens of hours of use out of a single crystal before you need to start to worry about it.

OK thanks! My biggest concern was that my 80k crystal would burn out after 30 minutes or something similar. Wasn't sure if that was the case it would be worth it for mining scordite and the like. ;)
As for the training. Prospector career path gives you almost all of the requirements to use the 4 crappiest ores t2 crystals at chargen. So not a lot of training was involved (about a day). So I decided to get to t2 strips first and then head towards a coveter (about 50 days for that. )

Mining crystals used so far to take damage (possibility) every time the miner activating stripers. T2 mining crystals lasts for 3 hours (more or less) and ofcourse depends on roids you shooting at. If your system has many ppl in belts and roids has ore for 2 or less cycles, then t2 crystals are not worth the way. this is sig :P |

Assuming exhumer rank 4 and two mining upgrades (gang and implant free), t2 will yield almost 100 m3 more than t1, if they last for 60 cycles, and your low end ore is worth roughly 100 ISK/m3, you end up with 600k isk worth more by using a t2 crystal.
Any gang and implant bonus adds to this difference, roids popping and failing to meet the target of 100 ISK/m3 lowers it.

T2 crystals are useful only in saving time, and thats what they do. If cost is your factor then is cheaper to stick in t1 stripers this is sig :P |

@ the previous post... T2 Crystals are nothing to do with time, they increase yield.
As for using them, I certainly do use them. They pay for themselves, and if you shop around you will find them all on the markets for a decently low price.

I believe the answer you're looking for is **** yeah! Interpret those stars as you wish but they are WELL worth the hassle, about a 7% increase in ore/hour (and therefore ISK/hour) over T1 crystals and the cost for them is really pocket change. If you can't afford 240k for a set of Scordite Crystals, you shouldn't be using T2 strips, even though they are a lot cheaper now than they used to be.
They last quite a while too, I stripped about a million omber in my Covetor before my T2 Omber crystals started failing me. -------------------------------------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. Never such a thing as a "last chance". ;) -Rauth |

T2 mining crystals are more expensive than normals (more than double), they have increased yield but they lasts for a sorter time than t1s. And therefore used to mine more in less time with a increased cost.
this is sig :P |

Wow, just when I thought I wouldn't find a statement worse than "Exactly the same isn't balanced."
If something increases your yield 10%, you would have to mine 10% longer with out it. That means, it takes you 10% less time to get what you need.
Therefore, much like fire rate affects DPS, mining rate affects time spent mining. ____________________ Skill Showroom |
