Edited by: Andre Ricard on 29/08/2007 15:22:16 I wonder if it would be possible to "upload" your TQ skills to your SiSi char. That way they wouldn't have to mass mirror it for 90% of the people who don't even use it. You can just upload your skills as necessary.
oops - this was supposed to be an edit to the post above. sorry!

I think they should do a mirror. Being a fairly recent character, I would really like to be able to take part in any test server event (official or non) and actually be able to fly and fit some of the stuff I have trained in the past few months...
As i've been cross training gallente on TQ, i can't even put good fittings on them on sisi because i don't have any of my mechanic skills for the tanks....

Edited by: BH Desryn on 29/08/2007 21:22:00 This mirror is not even 2 months old. The mirror was made on 3rd July.
Mirrors take a lot of work to prepare them for use on singularity, something like 2 days of work. They also need an extended downtime to copy from tranquility. Therefore mirrors are only made when a fresh one is required by the devs.
Character copying from tranquility on the fly would not work for this exact reason.

This mirror, at the date of your post, is nearly 2 months old =P. Though I do want a mirror, i realize that CCP goes through alot of work to do so, and they will do it when they want/need one.

In that case, why don't the devs just let us choose the level of skill that we want from our skill sheet. ie. you right-click on a skill and is lets you choose, between lvl0 (not trained) and lvl5, with out having to train the skill. This way we can test ships and other things, and even the high skill players can get lower skills to test stuff as well.

How would that test skill training of skills?.
New stuff which needs a lot of testing usually results in everyone being given the required skills. The rest of the skills can be trained as normal but the advantage is the +4 implants are only 100 isk.

Virtually everyone who's played long enough to care about using non-new stuff on the test server has at least a set of +3 implants. I know I have multiple clones with +4 implants on TQ now that they're so cheap so having cheap +4 implants on the server doesn't help.
About the only way that would help is if I had the peculiar desire to do some serious training with my trader alt but only on the test server. Why this would ever occur is beyond me but if it does I'll send my thanks....in the mean time can we have the option to copy our skills over from TQ?

Penn & Teller would say "this is bull****!"
Anyways.. Skill training simply does not need to be tested (game has been around for years, so everyone knows exactly how long skill training lasts). And if you REALLY want to test it, you can simply fire up evemon, create plan and theres your skill testing without wasting months of training them in game.
And no, I'm not saying that everyone should get free skills on test server, im just saying it does not need to be tested anymore. --- Get rid of those *bleep*ing secure containers. *bleep*! |

Because sometimes a patch tends to break a thing or two. Like tactical shield manipulation. Worked fine 1-4, didn't work at all level 5. Some non-dev trying to test this who already has it at level 5 can't un-train it back to level 4 to see if the whole skill is borked, or just a certain level of it. 1010011010 |

While I'd love to get my main synched to SiSi I can't help to feel that this is not a public service run by CCP but a test server that exist for them to test stuff on. Thus it's not intended for you to skill up on TQ and play around in SiSi to save money until you've perfected something, that's just a side effect of it because the devs are nice enough to let people use sisi even when no testing is taking place.
Normally ccp seed skills to characters when they need to try something specific. That said, I wouldn't mind a new mirror (I wasn't able to test something yesterday because of old char on sisi) but I dont feel I can beg for an update

At the very least, I think it would be a reasonable request to have an option to have your character on sisi automatically begin training of skills which you have either finished training or are currently training on tq, if... and only if... your character on sisi is not currently training anything. This way you can still test crap which requires you to not train something, *try* to maintain your tq skillset, and allow for a different skillpath on sisi vs tq all at once.

Not you.
We, the players of EVE, do not OWN CCP. We do not pay thier bills, we do not, and cannot tell them what-when-where-how to do something. We are not stock-holders or share-holders nor does paying our monthly due grant us any influence over anyone or anything at CCP.
We pay a subscription to be able to access their server(s). Nothing more, nothing less.

@ BH Desryn : those excuses don't fly.
It's hillarious how you claim "but how else could you test still training", when there's no queueing system and TQ already takes up most of your time, so you really, really have something ELSE better to do that always log in to SiSi and make the SAME skilltraining changes you just made on TQ just to keep it up-to-date. The fact +4 or even +5 implants are 100 ISK doesn't really mater when your character has them in its head on TQ already.
We're not talking about full mirrors (assets, standings, fitings, etc), we're merely talking about SKILL mirrors.
I hardly believe THAT would take days and days to complete. At an average of say, around 50k per character skillsheet in XML form (ZIPable to around 5k per character), even for a half milion active characters that's just 2.5 GB or so of data, which you could easily transfer over the internet to the other location, and not via regular mail (as I understand things are done for the full mirror, because of the size involved).
And that assumes XML form. However, seing how we're talking skills here, you could easily have a CSV file containing just the char ID and skill levels (0,1,2,3,4,5 and some other value meaning "not trained"). Even in *actual* text CSV form, this could easily put the whole charsheet of a character at around 1k (and a lot under half a k compressed), for a mere 250 MB of data, or less.
And that is for a full skill update, for all active characters. What if each user could MANUALLY select that "at SiSi downtime" or somesuch, data about its current skillset from TQ should be synchronised over on SiSi ? Limiting this to once per week or so would also be acceptable, to avoid server-pummeling abuse. _

I never saw the problem with simply seeding like +50 or +100 implants on sisi so that skills train much much faster. It's minimal extra work for the devs and players can test anything they need to.

ummm so let me get this straight ccp just has a money tree that makes money to pay for servers , employee's , overhead??
oh and i guess our money just goes to good cause , because they have that money tree ...
