I've made a couple of posts now of battles I've recorded in EVE. I really enjoy doing this and I love to see battles being played out and I'm sure others do as well without any risk to themselves just to see the whole grand spectacle of it all.
Unfortunately, the file I uploaded last night has gone and wildly exceeded the bandwidth for the month and the person that pays for the server wants to know if its going to be economically viable to seriously increase the bandwith so you guys can enjoy the vids.
I have been considering making a website containing all the battles I have and will record in the future, but any battles I do record I would still post anyway website or not.
I need to know from the Community here if this is something many of you would like to see. The way I see it, Video captures of EVE Battles are fairly scarce and often do not include the battle sounds themselves. I recently bought a 120GB Drive just so I could store all the raw data that the capture dumps (12min footage is 2.5GB). I think (and hope) many people here would like to see many more videos floating around.
What do you think? -------------------------

I love to watch videos of battles. If you dont have the bandwidth, you can have ccp host it in their player created videos section.

I know, but I prefer to just do this myself. Make the full effort. -------------------------

I love all the videos i've seen so far. Some of the videos i've seen (ie the ones released by whoever of the criele event) made me nearly wet myself form the npc missile spam. "I can only take so much before I'll blow up my own ship. Hey isn't that what insurance is for?"

Its an interesting idea, a corp of Journalists if you will.
But I am loyal to Endless and I do want to be part of the battle. Journalists can't do that, they just watch and maybe get shot at now and then -------------------------

I think i downloaded all the vids people made so far love them :)
Couldnt get your latest one though Ange1, download cut off halfway thru, (obviously cause of the bandwith being all used up).
I think theres a ****load of peeps lurking around these forum and downloading...it always ends up being way more then u expect at first, make sure u know what u get into hehe . I have no idea what it costs to be able to host huge files like your vid, but it might be better to let ccp host them....
But then they would have to approve the vids first and that might be annoying especially if its just raw mostly unedited footage (which i personally like tbh)
anyway, the more vids the better
(hmm it would be so nice if it was possible to record and playback stuff ingame like quake or CS has ) ========================= One small step for me, one giant leap for ALT-kind. |

Well I'm thinking of upgrading my current host to 200GB bandwidth. Atm its only 35MB. At least 1500 people would have to download that 170MB file to exceed the limit according to my calculations. -------------------------

You'd save some bandwidth if you used bittorrent.
and then other people with servers (like me), could just leave bittorrent downloads of all your vids running 24/7 to provide extra bandwidth.

Really can I suggest bittorrent for your downloading needs.
http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/
I've suggested it before in another thread, but it really is a perfect answer to your download problems. The more people who download it the less hit there is on the original server, especially in eve where we post it on the boards and everyone rushes to download. It would obviously mean that everyone has to download the bittorrent client, but seriously its a piece of **** to setup and will most likely solve your problem.

Movies are great, we just made one of our Alliance Change of Command ceremony ending in a major fleet battle.
So cool to see the pwning action over an over again.

I love videos too. Its a shame there so big and makes hosting them a real a'ss. I have quite a stock of videos now. Would love to upload the recent Crielere 'event' but i have a feeling the server would get hammered

Good job there, ange1.
But please, keep it freelance. Almost everyone who has tried to be the 'impartial journalists' has had one side of any battle slander, abuse, and accuse them of spying, and all sorts of other nasty crap.
Keep it solo, and people are less likely to accuse you of things you didn't/wouldn't do.
As far as in-game sounds go, a lot of people request them, but depending on how you edit your video (I play clips at anything up to 180% speed) sometimes the audio will not fit, or sound awful.
I've always left them out, and chose a tune that would have drowned it out anyway
People have suggested pulling the sounds out of the game files, and adding them later, but that's a bit impractical, and would take hours upon hours.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do though.
Also, contact [email protected] and see if they will let you upload it straight to CCP's server(s) .

Oh yea and a good metal-ish soundtrack helps The Only Thing Necessary for the Triumph of Evil is for Good Men to Do Nothing... |

Well, if I knew how to host anything I guess I'd be good since I have no max for uploading anything and a reasonable speed ( 1mb/s)
But I dont have my pc on 24/7 more like 15/5
This is not a hijack

If I did decide to do journalism as a hobby for EVE, I'm not the sort of person to do that. I'm simply in it to watch the spectacular fireworks and post them for other people to see. Thats what I really get out of it, just the enjoyment, not spinning lies or propaganda. -------------------------

Its nothing to do with your system unfortunately. I have a pretty powerful system, but the only reason it slows down is because Fraps is recording at the FPS you set it to, which the max is only 30FPS, so the game is forced to run at 30FPS or lower. -------------------------

Well I think these figures alone prove this is a popular venue:
The first file I posted called fleet.zip a week or so ago got 1,700+ hits. The Gurista's one I posted a few days ago (170MB one), got hit nearly 400 times (24 hour period) before I lost the bandwidth. -------------------------

Well, it sounds like there is definately interest. I am kinda with the people who say you should let CCP host them but if you are determined to do it yourself then good luck, I look forward to watching the fruits of your labor.
One suggestion for if you if you do do it yourself, maybe make versions of the movies available with and without sound, that way people who don't prefer sound(like drunkenmaster over there) will save you some bandwidth :-)

This is why you shouldn't hate bit torrent. It's actually good way to share large files with limited bandwidth.
If you're need bittorrent help, eve-mail me and I'll help you out.
If you think bit-torrent is just another P2P app like kazaa/morphous then you're very wrong. It's the first true swarming p2p format. _________________________________________________

Bit Torrent is simply not a viable option for me unfortunately and I don't really trust CCP to get what I wanted hosted in a quick amount of time. I've been considering places like Fileplanet or Filefront to host them. -------------------------
