as im sure some of you bounty hunters know theres a rather meaty pirate presence at pashanai (genesis - 0.4) at the moment. for those of you who didnt know, well you do now! from what ive seen they are being relatively respectable, (i.e. letting folks go if they pay etc) and the majority of 'unpleasantness' in local has not originated from them (so far as ive seen anyway). but nonetheless as this is what i believe is termed a 'highway system' im surprised there have not been more bounty hunters there.... do b'hunting corps only work in specific regions or do they typically move all over?
i also have a question regarding the way they camp the (manatirid) gate. as warp scrambling can only be done at 20km max, but the gate sentries have a range of what 60k(ish) how come the sentries dont shoot the offending pirate when folks come through the gate and get scrambled? obviously id like to observe them and find out for myself, but i cant see any feasible way of doing this....

Edited by: FZappa on 09/02/2004 10:52:34 are you sure they scramble people at all and not just snipe them ?
i saw one guy's report , a mega was using 425 railgun . nice sniping hybrid . sit at far distance from sentries and shoot away.
im sure sooner or later someone will come to kick them out . just like jamm and TWD got chased around gonditsa a while back (might be wrong there , but had my alt there one night with some bounty hunters chasing them around) -------------------------

im not really sure tbh, but if they dont scramble i dont see how they can demand ransoms as people will either escape or get destroyed if the pirates target them fast enough. and from what i saw most (if not all) of them were close to the gate.
also if they are not doing multiple scrambles and webs, what would be the point of there being so many of them? unless of course they are all sniping as you say. perhaps im wrong, maybe they were all outside sentry range then... |

I pesonally had a battle with the pirates there the other day. Was quite fun, and we who live around that region are fully aware of the situation.
This is going to be a very volatile system in the coming week, and I hope they are ready for war.

could be 2 other possibilities
1.they have a shield tank ship to draw sentry fire . not that hard to do . (however now that i think of it , the sentries should fire on gang members too if the tank warps out . unless the tank can sit and take sentry fire for 15minutes )
2.using an exploit related to grids avoiding sentry fire at all. that has been done in the past in yulai i think . -------------------------

We had a large fleet warp in there, most left due to inactivity, shortly after we had a consentual battle 60km+ out of range of the sentries.
They almost downed my BS with 4 Apoc's taggin me from long range. Twas a good fight, and a couple cruisers were lost in the tiff.
We will be back, and a little more organized. *Dings Bell" ROUND 2

Oh and yes they are sniping ships from long range, so be careful going through there.
They are willing to fight, and they do have some skill in pvp. Makes for good times.

hmm ive just remembered a key piece of information i forgot previously. one chap i know warped to the gate at 30k to see what was happening. he was instantly scrambled and had to pay a ransom. however he says there was no senty gun fire whatsoever. now i believe this means that if someone was at max 20k away to scramble him they would have been max 50k from gate, and hence surely within sentry range.
how is this possible?

well its not impossible i suppose, but the person involved seemed very confident that the sentry guns were not shooting...
so if we assume that to be the case for now, then is there any other way it would be possible?

Don't sentry guns not shoot in 0.4 unless you splash the gate. Hence why they are camped.

so they are there to protect the gate only? doesnt that make them rather pointless? and why do all the 'evil-doers' constantly moan about the presence of sentries then? i admit ive a lot to learn in this game but im fairly sure you must be wrong about that.

The sentries are working there and you don't need to do any splash damage to the gate to make em work.
A well shielded BS can endure alot of sentry fire btw.
They make $$ by blowin you up and taking your stuff.
Good traffic through that area makes it a good spot to camp.

Wrong. We make good money from ppl that pay us, we dont wanna blow u up unless u cant pay one way or the other. We do not blow everything/everybody up and we do not podkill ppl. That is the truth, ask many of our happy customer¦s. Nuff said.

My apologies, I should have edited that last post. Yes you do lock ppl down and extort money. But you gota admit you do wax ppl for their gear as well. Its all a part of pirating. Not trying to knock your corp, cause I like ya'll cause you fought without an hour of coaxing, which I admire in a pirate.
I do pay attention to my surroundings. Up for round 2 on Sunday? Maybe Yes?

We "wax" people just because they have the illusion that they can log off or self destruct their ships before we can touch them, our hangars are proof of that does not work. Payments can vary from ship to ship, depending on what the current situation allows.

I have to disagree, having been attacked by a corpmate of yours, named Blooded Heromy. No ransom, no message, no nothing. I got shot, but my Tristan managed to pull through, only armor lost, and I jumped. Not much ransom or happy customer on that part.

I was referring to our blockade, one person shooting somebody from long-range isnt a blockade, atleast imo.

We had a nice fight with Triniton and 4life, 6 frigs and 2 thoraxes opened up at the nadir of a station. We lost most of our ships but it was plenty of fun. I left some drones as a present :) And yes, the ships can withstand a ton of sentry fire.
Unfortunately, you did pod one of our members. 10k for his corpse? -----------------------------------------------
