In three hours or so of ratting/salvaging/mission running I make about a million or so ISK. Am I about where I should be or does anyone have any advice for this tiny little newb?
What did you do when you first started?

Seeing as you wont really be spending that much isk anytime soon, I'd say thats not too bad. Although I would suggest going for pure ratting/mission running from the start, too many eggs in one basket can spoil the income. Don't bother salvaging yet until you have some better skills to take on the tougher rats.

Missions-wise, the real money starts at L3 missions (3-5 mil/hour), and gets good only at L4 missions (10-20 mil/hour). L5 missions are bad again. L3s are easy as pie in a Drake with minimal skills, so the only problem is how fast you can get the standings needed for L3 missions.
Ratting-wise, the real money starts in lowsec, and only gets good in 0.0 So, basically, don't bother at "your age" much, unless you like to gamble.
Mining, one word, BORING, but might actually be a decent alternative (a char could be flying an Osprey or a Vexor with L3 cruiser almost as soon as they can afford it if they knew what starter choices to pick and what to train fast), and rake in close to or even over 1 mil/hour even from Veldspar mining (tritanium price should take an upwards hike soon).
You can always trade no matter how much money you have, but the more you have the better the income usually. NPC trade routes aren't all that hot, but runs with ammo between trade hubs and mission hubs and vice-versa with generic loot are always profitable, and quite fast too. And, well, there's always courier missions... be it actual missions, or those in contracts (those are harder to find, and some are traps).

Sell your body?

Actually I ran missions, which is arguably worse. Anyway, a million an hour while you're still learning the game sounds okay. Hopefully you're having some fun doing it is all. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

When I first started playing I remember shooting rats with lazorz in a .7 system in my Thrasher! Making 100,000 isk an hour and loving it. Ah the good ol days.

when I started playing I mined crokite when zyd was 4400isk/u and made around 10-20 mil/hr.
Also ratted serpentis in a cyclone when I was bored mining.

If your ambitions are to fly large ships and pwnmobile t2 and officer setups then you will drain the fun of the game for yourself by grinding isk.
You can make 50 000 an hour and be happy. It is about the experience not about the WTFPWN ships and setups.

When I had about 2.8 mil sp my corp joined an alliance in 0.0. I went out and starting ratting in my cruiser for those battleship rats. In about a month more of improving my damage and tanking skills and learning of the political situation in the area I started making 15-30 mil an hour in bounties and loot (loot and salvage is about 80% of ISK from those rats). This is about what people make on level 4 missions. Only it would have taken me may be 100 missions and some good battleship piloting skills, may be even cross-training for Caldari, to be able to solo level 4 missions. If you're just a few weeks old earining 1 mil or so is where you should be. But try out low sec and 0.0 ratting eventually because more risk is typically greater pay.

As a noob since i was in a mining crop that had ops fairly regularly i flew an iti, if i was not in the mood to mission or had to be afk alot i would just hit 1.0 or .9 space park my iti in a belt with 2 miners on it and target some roids go afk for 15 20 minutes come back target some morw go afk again.
Probably not the most efficient way to make isk but a good way to do it as a young pilot if you need to do work or chores in rl and can just leave eve run while you do them.

You can ask around in systems full of mission runners and you can often find people running level 4 missions who'd let you loot/salvage. Cleaning out a level 4 yields good isk and salvage, and is risk free once you find a missioner you can trust.

To elaborate on the 'join a corp' option. Join a corp. Fit a ship fast enough to likely survive getting out to 0.0, put a pve fitting and a bunch of ammo in the cargo hold. Join a corp mate or 2 ratting in some place quiet. Profit.
Also, while lowsec ratting in lowsec is no where near the isk/hour of 0.0, and the chances are far lower, you can run into a lucky spawn in lowsec. I netted a whole bunch of isk off a dread guristas spawn ratting in my ceptor(out of boredom) in sujarento. It happens, just very very rarely.

I have to echo the "join a corp" people. When I was a newb, the corp I joined had miners who paid me to haul for them. Hauling takes almost no time to train for, and miners will pay you what will to you seem a lot (certainly more than you can make running L1 missions) but in reality saves them plenty of time and ISK, so it's a win-win.

best isk/hour for noob = hauling slave. it earns good isk and makes those miners LOVE you which is worth more than the isk after some time...
