Please people, stop posting that you can't use "abort" to swap to a new training skill. At any time you may use ANY method of quitting your training of a skill and switch to a new skill WITHOUT the loss of any skill points. Once a skill point is earned, it is there forever (assuming you don't die). switching to a new skill or aborting an old skill are both equally viable means without any point loss.

I agree with the original poster. I have aborted and switched skills many times and have never lost any points. What does happen though, and I think this is where the confusion comes from, is that the EVE client sometimes fails to show the correct amount of skill points and displays the amount of points from before the partial training. We've all seen the points flash back to the amount before training and then refresh to what it should be when we switch skills. Sometimes the second refresh doesn't happen and gives the illusion that the points are lost. If you resume the training on that skill however, you'll see that the training will continue where you left off. |

I never abort, I just switch over to whichever skill I want to train, when the warning comes up, I jsut click ok, haven't lost a single skill point yet. I'm guessing as long as you don't actually actively abort a skill training, you won't lose any skill points.

Try switching when the training says 'Completion imminent'. I lost 12 hours of training that way. "There's a peace that's only to be found on the other side of war." -King Arthur. |

I agree with Jade here. Thoose of you that have "lost" skillpoints have you ever thought of it as a visual bug? didn't think so. I'm 100% sure that's the case here.

Why on earth would you switch when it's imminent?

Just petition if you think you lost sp, ccp stated quite a few times already you will get reimbursed. Since that isnt supposed to happen (and since i tend to abort and change quite often and havent seen it happen i guess that normally it wont happen). -------- -The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs

I too have switched when it was 'Completion imminent' and have lost about 30 min of training from that. The reason why we switch when it's imminent is that sometimes it just keeps saying 'Completion imminent' for about 5-10 min after that i don't want to keep waiting for the skill to complete so i switch it and sometimes i loose some points that way _______________________________________________

Edited by: GM Abraxas on 15/02/2004 16:29:01 This is old and has been documented. I'm the one who wrote this article. It's actually an old one and could do with an update, because one of the two bugs it mentions - about a skill completing prematurely - isn't even active anymore. While you're seeing "completion imminent", the skill keeps on training in the background.
You do not lose skillpoints when aborting, switching or finishing skills. The points you'd saved during that particular training session are written to your character. If you don't see them, it's due to a display error. Restarting the skill will show you the correct value.
The one exception is the one I linked to. Sometimes a skill incorrectly displays "completion imminent" even when you're far, far away from finishing the level. Stopping the training shows you the real point value you had trained.
For anyone who believes they've actually lost points this way, simply do this: Time your training. Note the skill points you have when you start training, and the ones you end up with when you abort. If you calculate your training rate for that skill, you'll find that you've ended up with exactly the number of points you were supposed to get. I've done this calculation literally hundreds of times ever since the game came out, and the outcome is always the same: No points lost.
