Edited by: Hubris on 02/09/2007 02:15:24 The pvp tournament is at Friday 7:30 am pacific time for the western US, and on the east coast its 10:30 am. Is there some reasoning behind this griefing of the US based players? Why not have it on the weekend for all players? Many who can't get the day off from work will never be able to be there on certain days. Also they were not able to attend on the first day.
Not a whine just a question for the people putting it on. Because it doesn't make any real sense to me at all. -

Can't make it fair for everyone. In my opinion it doesn't matter that much since you can simply watch the episodes later.

This is about pilots being able to attend to be in the fighting. 7:30am to 10:30 am on Friday isn't the weekend, its a workday here in the US. -

I expect the timing is to do with the fact that CCP lives in Iceland, and runs on GMT. TO run it at another time would be a headache for the organizers, because it would be outside their normal sleep / work cycle.

Well I do think it should be during the weekend, when most players will be off work. I could have been in for frege if I didnt have work This may also make it so some allainces have an unfair advantage, if most of thier players are based someone other than the uk, or have jobs its going to be impossible to get a good team together. Whereas the uk based alliances will have the better pvpers on.
PLease consider doing the next tourney on a weekend

Its not about watching it winter, its about participating. Its really cool they put it up to watch for free. They are doing a great job.
They missed a very key part tho. Timing of the events for the pilots that are in the event. The actual time isn't of much consequence as most eve players would stay up late or get up really early to participate. Its the non weekend days that boggle my mind. Why the friday early morning to late in the day times on friday.
If they needed 2 more days just use one more weekend of saturday and sunday. CCP and EVE TV need to understand that even tho they are poutting the event on it would be a lot better if it was open to everyone. Not just those that can get friday off. It would always make for a better event for all of us to watch and participate in if the largest group possible of players had a chance to participate.
I am just a standby pilot for PL's team. May not even get to fight. But friday i can't even be a standby pilot unless i fake being sick or spend one of my few vacation days off to be there.
Its just odd, and i was hoping one of the event staff would answer the question. Not people that don't read the entire post before responding........ -

Hubris, your question/comment isn't entirely crazy, it was just the way you went about it that struck most people as off. Accusing CCP of griefing US players is kinda starting out with an accusatory tone, so it puts people on the defensive.
I have to admit, I wondered a bit myself at the decision to run the tourney on Friday as well, but it could be a lot worse I suppose.

Honestly I think the majority of players are Euro based so it would only seem logical for them to go with their evening times not to mention they've paid for the game for years.
Still it wouldn't matter if the whole thing was done completely on Saturday/Sunday times. Probably a bit to ask for to drag it out even longer on each day but it would make more people available for the action.
I in fact like watching it so I wouldn't mind it over 3 weekends myself. weekend 1, free for all. weekend 2, semifinals, and weekend 3 I R teh PwnZor U
Either way. I don't care :P I Know DEREK I R EXPERT I Play With Myself |

I think you'll find that the tourney times on Friday are still within the working day in the UK. If you work, you will have difficulty taking part wherever you are.

We're broadcasting from Iceland, 1500-2100 local time. If we did it any earlier, it would be harder for those in the US timezone. if we did it later, we'd be up working too late, and would be hurting our Oceanic brethren further. We have to work within the timezone we're in, so 1500-2100 seems the best that can be done _

Being an American, I identify with ya Hubris, but it is impossible to broadcast at a time that works for everyone.
EVE is an international game and the EVE TV crew has easily accomplished more for world peace than the UN in recent times...

its an difficult start time , if your a euro and god forbid have a job , your stuffed . Bos's don't usually give all afternoons for a week off as you have important gaming commitments ( in the uk the match's start at 4pm one or two hours before most people finish work ) not a complaint on my part self employment ftw , just pointing out its not just US guys who are finding it hard . |

Fair points, and I agree with it that it would make some more sense to add a third weekend so that the tournaments fall on the most likely days to allow for the maximum participation. Perhaps next year?
Alternately, run the tournaments longer per day so it can be sandwiched into two weekends without requiring participation on the fridays. *shrug* I would imagine the current team is pretty pressed for time as it is, however.

the griefing part was a joke, but it seems a lot of people are too serious to get a play on words. -
