Hi peeps, i got this e-mail earlier today and was wondering if it was legit or dodgy? i have'nt sent a reply(come on...if my cd key was duplicated with someone else's surely they would'nt need me to tell 'em?anyways, i been playing Eve since launch...so surely they'd assume i was legit?), though i have sent an e-mail to eve support proper about it, though i have'nt recieved an answer yet. Any one else had a similar e-mail?any ideas ppl?ok here's the e-mail i was sent(thx for you're help ppl):
GM E-mail removed. Posting GM conversations is against the forum rules, I'm afraid - Orestes

Well, you coudl send GM Zworm a msg, if he doesnt exist, then this is definately a scam, or file an other petition I would think. "I'm comin' for ya, and Hell's comin' with me!" |

Allrighy, seems I was a bit hasty with commenting on this
My apologies for that
Anyway, the Super cool senior GM* I spoke to told me this was a real inident and thus a real e-mail. Please follow it's instructions exactly.
Again, sorry for the confusion, but this is a real e-mail from Support.

Still very good advice...... [It's all fun and games until someone puts an eye out. And then it's fun and games without depth perception.]

Accepting that it's genuine, the fact that the e-mail asks for a photocopy of the CD key is going to make it LOOK dodgy.
Can a GM/Dev please confirm that other people having your CD key does NOT make it possible for them to access, cancel, or in any other way alter, your account? I assume not, since this is genuine; but it ought to be written in stone somewhere.
If it already is, then ignore me.

copy of the confirmation e-mail might do. Basically, they want evidence that you didn't steal the CD key: if they also get evidence that the other guy didn't steal the CD key, they'll assume that two identical ones were shipped by mistake.

No matter how legit that mail is, I'd nevet ever in a million years give away my CD key. Not ever. Very unprofessional to ask for a CD Key!!! shame on you CCP.
If the other use got a problem, e-mail him a CD-key and voila his problem is solved, -------------------------

Agree! your cd-key is yours only. Not gamers problem if eve got problem with duplicate cd-keys and stuff. If you bought it you bought it. end of story, Only thing they can demand is a photo of the box in my opinion.

Why ask things like that in emails. It would have been one thing if it had been in game. I woulden't trust non encryption signed emails more than I'd trust a post card from:

I'm sorry Orestes but your response doesn't really equate with the sort of game that CCP has created.
The level of trust within Eve is now virtually zero with only long established corps escaping the worst sort of distrust; and even they are not immune.
To call Skillz a liar is a harsh call. He is only reflecting the difficulty that everybody finds with trust on-line and even more so in Eve.
I hope that my corp will prove itself as reliable as the organisation that I work for in real life but I can give no guarantees on either of them.

What's in game and out of game are two different things!!!
How authentic do you think an email, on it's own merits, is, have you for instance tried to reply to a spam mail??

Edited by: Syme on 10/02/2004 00:11:16 Skillz, I work for the government and although internal e-mails are not likely to lose you money they can certainly lose you your job.
Don't believe for a second that the paranoia exhibited in Eve is restricted to this game only.
And my personal PC receives no e-mails apart from approved accounts and my work one kicks them out before I get them (apart from travelocity for some reason). |

That's why I said I woulden't trust an email that isen't using strong encryption and signed by a trusted host. (That's a host I trust)
