I have had that exact same effect but only when I have gone a bit far with my O/C reverts to normal when I reduce the clock speed. 8500 gt here.

The only time it has ever happened to me, is when I get a connection lose, it never has happened any other time. It looks kinda cool though. XD

Unless its you who have tried to hax0r the client code, and got a messed up login screen as a result. 
I think you will find the players to be just as powerhungry as the GMs

This was from when I had a graphics card that would overheat regularly.
