What AMARR Battleship would be best for solo missions and some ratting, in Amarr space? Or should I go for the Harbringer instead? Right now I use a Maller.

If you have the skills, a battleship would be better. I'd say apoc or abaddon, but from the sounds of things you don't have the skills. If you're flying a maller, it's probably better to roll a harby first. But I can't help that much unless you give us some idea of your skillz. |

When I was finally able to reasonably fly a battleship into a L4, my first choice was an Abaddon, fitted with pulses and an AB. I liked the look of the tank and damage bonus, but I found that I was constantly having to chase down NPC battle ships that would orbit at 50km in order to be able to do more than tickle them with Radio lenses. It was especially painful trying to deal damage to anything with strong EM resists at that range. Even with the AB it was adding a lot of back and forth travel time to my missions. I tried fitting beams, but straight away found I was having significant trouble with anything inside of 30KM, even battleships, and cruisers and battle cruisers were impossible to hit. At that point my drone skills weren't exactly stellar, either, so I was out of the fat and into the fryer.
I eventually replaced the Abaddon with a pulse fit Apocalypse, and I find it much slicker. The cap bonus looks a little underwhelming at first, but it meant I all of a sudden had plenty of free slots that would have otherwise gone to keeping my cap stable. It let me fit Heat Sinks and Tracking Computers, and coupled with the Apocalypse's range bonus meant that I was doing more damage than my Abaddon and at longer ranges. With range-scripts in the TCs, everything inside my targeting range was inside of optimal range for Microwave lenses. I could apply sufficient DPS with Standards out to 50KM that it saved time compared to burning out there to get into Multi range. It made bringing the shorter range lenses into play against targets with strong EM tanks a lot easier, so that the extra Thermal damage could do its work. And Tracking Speed helps make short work of close ranged medium sized targets. By switching out lenses and tracking scripts, you can very quickly adapt your turrets to effectively hit your targets at pretty much any range.

My conventional design philosophy says Tracking Comp with beams, Webber with pulse.
I don't have trouble with hitting things inside of 30k, but I find that Angels and their tendency to run in under 10k obnoxious at best. I also don't leave dock without an AB. I don't normally run it while shooting, but it does make the difference in some engagements. |

The Armageddon is a good "baby steps" ship, after which the Apocalypse is the real mission boat. It has the range to snipe entire missions from far away, and the cap stability that the Abaddon lacks. However, I wouldn't recommend moving past the Harbinger unless you are running L4 missions. Harbinger is excellent for L3 and below missions. |

I have only been playing this game for about 6 months, and I have just skilled up to where I can fly a BC, but not a BS yet. But I like to plan way ahead of myself. My skills are just under 1M yet. All I have done are the tutorials and the level one Sisters missions. Now I am back in Amarr space and just want to skill up. |

Focus on being able to fly frigates and cruisers well before dipping into BC/BS. It will limit headaches from lossmails and difficult fittings, and will teach you to fly ships competently (pilot skill, not skill points) before you get into really expensive stuff.
I also recommend also doing some light PvP, even if you mostly do missions. You could go to lowsec in cheap frigates occasionally just to play around, or if you don't plan going to Gallente/Minmatar space, you could even join the Amarr militia for more lowsec fun. I myself joined the Minmatar militia almost immediately after finishing my tutorials, and I would recommend it as the good course of action.
Most important, however, is finding a group of people you like to fly with -- most commonly found in a corporation. There are plenty of newbie-friendly corps out there that would be glad to take you in and teach you all the ins and outs of Eve. Rifterlings (my corporation) is actually one of them, but we base out of low-sec and are part of the Minmatar militia, so I don't know how appealing that is.
Welcome to Eve! |

Sounds Like a Very good Plan. Although I am in no way ready for Low-sec. But I do know that Corps. are a great help. Thanks |

"I am not ready for PvP" is an often-held misconception by newbies. If you can fly a Punisher with an afterburner, warp scrambler, and some rudimentary armor tank, you are ready for PvP. I still fly T1-fitted Rifters sometimes, and they are still some of the most fun ships I have ever flown.
There is really nothing to lose from going crazy with T1 frigates. They are really cheap (1-2 mil per ship max), and can often hit above their weight class. For what it's worth, have some anecdotal proof: I killed a Prophecy (Amarr battlecruiser) in lowsec using naught but my Punisher and a ton of luck.
And even if I died, I would not have really cared, since it was a good and fun fight. |

It requires the Sentry skills that amar toons usually don't have, and t2 pulse, plus high cap and fitting skills. Less noob friendly than even Abaddon. But yes, it's beefy, and at only 200 mil. That's 50 mil more than Abaddon, for a lot more gank. |
