Nova! you and your colleagues are doing a great job and congratulations on standing by your decisions like a referee should.
Haven't been on the forums for a very long time. Had a look at it because of the tourney. But nothing changed ... Goons just keep on ruining it, same as they killed CAOD. So bye again ...

Regarding your quipe about western world judiciary systems, you fail to also take into consideration that the justice system also take into account social impacts, and when dealing with individuals who have been found guilty, the individual's value to society. There isn't much (if any) leniancy given towards those with past criminal history, anti-social attitudes or being a burden upon society. If the tourney was under the same system, you could pretty much guarantee that goons fit all three of the aforementioned attributes and would have been disqualified from the tournament completely. So in that essence, you should be happy.
In short, you are a goon so why would you expect any leniancy whatsoever anyhow? It isn't like your alliance had any serious chance at doing anything in the tournament anyhow. You fullfilled the expectation that you would try to cheat so why not just pack it in, call it a day and come to the realization that your leadership has been conning you with some propaganda to keep you being a meatshield in order to get their wallets fat. Afterall that is the whole point of the game.
You seem to believe to too many rumors, and also fail to comprehend that goons aren't a socially and mentally compact entity- just like any big social conglomerate. Hence your analisys fails.

Originally by: Cippalippus Primus I gave a fast look at your post, I'm not even trying to get into the details of your trolling. However I'll just mention that the need for certain punishments for different crimes is an old concept, dating back to the age of Enlightment and the writings of Beccaria (Dei Delitti e delle pene).
Every serious competition, wether is it sport or card games, leaves discrection to the referees for the determining of the crime, and narrows the discrection for the punishment. Which means that the referee can just categorize the misdemeanor and leaves the determining of the punishment to a set of written rules.
This is also the founding system of every judiciary system in the western world. The discrection is limited as much as possible when determining the punishments for crimes, under the principle that everyone is equal in front of the law.

I can understand all the crap happening because I've been co-supervisor on couple huge (real money involved) tournaments in my time. I can say that supervising anything like this is hard work and there is always something which is not mentioned in rules which you have to decide in way or another (and in some cases both of the teams are not happy with the result).
In anycase I think EVE tourney has been run pretty smoothly, so props to you GM's =). Don't give up even if couple teams leaves

Go watch a football match. Professional, experienced, full time and highly trained referees make decisions 100's of times each match. Without fail, they will be mercilessly (verbally, hopefully) ripped to shreds after the match.
It is nothing personal, and nothing new. People will always have a go at the ref in any sport. The fact people are accusing you of incompetence and favouritism is just a sign that this has become a real and authentic sport
Don't take it personally. You guys do as good a job as anyone can expect, and any mistakes are just that- mistakes. Learn from them, and get ready for the next one.
Well said.

Add to the list one drunk GM Nova, who failed to set of the ecm burst at the start of the match between pandemic legion and terra incognita because he was, well, drunk.

I wasn't drunk. A colleague had what appeared to be some sort of serious medical issue. Not due to an alcohol consumption but something else. While I called an ambulance and talked to the medical team which arrived, another GM sat in my chair to continue with the event. When he pressed the ECM Burst it was not activated because my character was cloaked and he had not noticed.
My colleague turned out to be just fine after a visit to the hospital.

So you admit that there was a problem, and that the match was not started as per the guidelines. I now realise that there were extensive mitigating circumstances. Now I need you to acknowledge that this resulted, imho with us loosing the semi-final match.
I think the only fair thing to do here is award us equal second place.

Have you ever seen that happen, EP? Like, ever?
It doesn't, it would be imbalanced. It sucks, yes. It's a shame, yes. It's also life. What you're trying to claim, hell, why not ask for equal first place, because after all you MIGHT have beat HUN?
It's a long road to nothing, just let it drop and look forward to the next tournament.
As a sidenote...

Thats the point isnt it? IF. Add it to the fact, that hindsight is always 20/20. So let's not argue about things like: what would have been.
Then again, if you dont mind, you could share your idea on how to beat us.. fyi: during the course of the tournament, we only faced one team who had the chance.. they merely didnt realize it. I guess you can figure out which team i mean. (that is: after the first match ofc) My post does not represent the general or official opinion of anyone else besides me. No matter what YOU believe.
