Edited by: Miyamori on 06/09/2007 02:03:18 Edited by: Miyamori on 06/09/2007 02:03:09 I'm looking at reactivating my 2.5m SP Amarr character that I stopped playing in Nov 2006. Last time I was playing, Amarr kinda sucked 'cause of EM/Thermal sucking as the only real damage type.
How are Amarr now that a couple expansions have gone through? Are laser boats still bad? If so, what should I roll for general group PvP and eventual mass combat in a big corp (if I can get into a big war corp)? Or are lasers actually decent now and Amarr just as good as the other races' ships for PvP?

Various changes have been implemented to make Amarr a more powerful player in PvP and PvE, most notably the Khanid Mark II changes detailed in recent dev blogs. Some Amarrian ships have also gotten fitting adjustments to make them more powerful.
Overall, Amarr is still slightly subpar, but the recent changes are helping it close the distance quickly, and further fixes coming in Soon(tm) are going to bump it up to par with the other races.
I'd suggest that you keep using your Amarr character - you'll still find plenty of PvP opportunities, and can train skills for another race's weapons and ships if you want to switch. Given that you're already at 2.5 million SP, retraining for another race will probably be quicker than rolling a new character and getting it up to par with your old one. -----

Amarr still have teh sexiest ships.
The amarr don't suck for weapons. a railgun doesn't have any more flexibility in damage type than a laser does. Amarr ships tend to have acceptable drone bays and work about as well as a their equivilants in other races. in PVP DPS is DPS no matter what type it is, the more the merrier, and amarr have the advantage of not needing to reload and being able to change ammo types in 1 second.
I wouldn't ever say the amarr suck. They just do things differently. They sure as hell have an easier time tanking Sansha/Blood Raider NPCs than an equivilantly skilled Caldari pilot.

Well, I didn't expect that to change. I was really disappointed when I found out the best looking ships weren't all that great mechanically. Though I guess they're not too bad right now since there weren't 4000 "zomg Amarr sucks" replies to this post like there would have been when I was playing last. In that case, I'm going to reactivate and look for a pvp corp...and try to get out of the 0.1 system that I'm pretty sure I logged off in...

Hate to say it but Amarr ships do just as much not sucking as they do sucking. They have some really good armor tanks, but if you go lasers they do lack in damage flexibility.
Still not a bad race.

Good luck. If Amarr doesn't work out for you, remember that crosstraining is quick and painless. -----

hehe if they made sexiest ships in game also be pwnmobiles everyone would be flying them and it would not be fair to other ships ... It is kind of like what they did to Achura. These are best characters to create in terms of training, however they are also among the uglier chars in game.
Amarr ships have indeed been changed in an effort to boost them. I remember reading something about fittings for T2 eanms being increased so that it would be more difficult to fit them, thus ship's EM resistance to amarr lasers would not get boosted. There were also Khanid mk II changes, that gave certain ships bonuses like 5% to rocket/heavy assault missile damage, armor resistances, and reduction of capacitor recharge time. Plus nosferatus have been nerfed; now they a more like energy equalizers rather than vampires. Amarr ships that depend on their cap benefit from this change as now no one can suck your cap out completely, unless they are running really low on theirs. So all in all, Amarr ships have been improved.

Amarr doesn't suck and never did. Just make sure to pick your targets or go fight the correct npc faction. No use to fight angels in an amarr ship. -----------------------------------------------
