Hi all, sorry for the newbie question but well... I am a newbie.
I know you can Ctrl+LMB on something in your over-view to lock onto it, but is there a similar function to orbit something, or do I always have to RMB > Orbit > 1000 ? |

You can use the overview buttons.
Left click on the target (on screen, or overview). You should see a bunch of buttons become available at the top of the overview.
Right click on the "Orbit" button, and select "Set default distance". You can specify what distance you want, if you want 1,000m, then enter "1000".
Next time you click the button, you'll orbit at 1000 (which beats right clicking and navigating those triksy menus. ---

Aha, excellent. Thank you.
Is this possible on the little display I get at the top of my screen too? (where it shows the targets I have locked onto)

Edited by: Grez on 07/09/2007 13:00:06 Yup. The overview will display the available buttons depending on what target you have selected at the time.
For example, say I have a PVP target locked, and a nearby shifty looking Stargate. If I click on the PVP target's lock display, I get buttons to orbit him, unlock him, etc. If I select the stargate lock display, I get options to jump and such. ---

Ah! Thank you very much.
Just one last quick question.
Soemtimes I have two NPC pirates locked, and at the top where they display I am able to click on one or the other (they have a > < sort of target around whichever one I click). I assume this was to choose active target, for example which one of the two I fire at but this doesnt seem to be the case and when one of the two is closer in range I have to unlock the one I am firing at and re-start my weapon cycle on the new (old) target.
Sorry if it makes no sense, but what I mean is to ask if there is a quick way to jump between locked targets or do I have to unlock them in order to move to the enxt one?

Edited by: Grez on 07/09/2007 13:04:36 You can keep multiple targets locked at the same time.
All you have to do is hold control, and left click on as many targets as you want (within your lock range).
How you depict how you have the right one selected, is that the lock picture will be depressed or slightly smaller.
The >+< on the overview means you have that target locked, it does NOT mean you have that target selected.
The target you currently have selected AND locked always has a spinning reticle over it.

Oh I see, so even if I have 2 locked, I will only ever be able to target the first I locked onto (the right hand on the thinga t the top)?
Is there no way I can toggle between the two targets?

Edited by: Grez on 07/09/2007 13:08:20 You can jump from locked target to locked target simply by clicking on the their lock picture at the top of the screen and deactivating your weapons on the old target, and activating them on the new one - you don't need to unlock them.
The skill "Targeting" under Electronics allows you to lock more targets. ---

Excellent, think I grasp it now, so I stop my guns firing and then re-start them, after clicking on my new targets picture and this allows me to keep both targets locked still?
Sorry for sounding so dense, I just find it all very confusing. Thank you very much for your help and patience. :">

Edited by: Grez on 07/09/2007 13:13:06 That's exactly right.
Example case:
Two targets, both at 10km.
You lock both, you start to fire on one of them.
After a few seconds, the one you're firing on runs further away (20km), and you can't hit him, yet the other is still in-range.
You stop your guns, and select the second locked target (at the top of the screen), and simply start your guns on that target.
And there you have it. If you want to ask any questions in-game you can mail/convo me. But there's usually a bunch of people in Q&A to help. ---

Wonderful, that's the scenario I was using it in as well, hehe.

All settled then :)
Don't forget that "Long range targeting" increases your lock range, and "Targeting" increases the amount of objects you can lock. ---

up to the maximum lockable targets of the ship you are flying. if you want to go over this fixed limit you need both enough levels of targeting and an "autotargeting system" module in one of your high slots.this will icrease the ships limit by 2 or 3 targets depending on TI or T2 module. But not many people use them as you lose a weapon slot.

If you do this "set all firing and THEN lock" thing, you end up firing all your weapons at once, which can look really impressive. In a missile ship, you end up firing all your launchers at the same time and get what looks like a small sun heading towards your target. In a drake, this is 7 heavy missiles at once, and can total several thousand damage when it hits.

Hah, yes have done this a few times but am quite new, so I am still running L1 missions and with my missiles actually equipped I kill the NPC pirate things in one hit, generally before I even get close to them. Made things a little dull so removed it :-p
Am looking forward to do it further down the line though hehehe
