1. What is the difference between me approaching a wreck and looting its cargo v.s. using a salvager? Do you loot and then salvage? Salvage only? Longer range?
2. When I lock onto a new target, I appear to need to reclick my weapons to get them to start firing. Is there a setting or something to make my weapons auto fire on my current locked on target?
Thanks!

1. Looting is taking the modules and items (i.e. loot) from the wreck. Salvaging is searching the wreck for useable leftover parts, these parts are used in the production of rigs (see ship modifications in the market)
2. You have to re-activate the guns on each new target manually. -=^=-

It helps to know some of the keyboard shortcuts
For the guns (high slots), the shortcuts are F1, F2, etc
So normally we lock on a new target, then we hit F1-F2-F3, etc.

Also
Taking loot from a wreck will flag you as a criminal and you can then be killed by other players in high sec with no CONCORD intervention
However salvaging any empty wreck is fine.

any empty wreck, or any wreck at all? I was under the impression I could salvage any wreck, loot filled or not, with no consequence, as long as I didn't loot it.

Correct. Salvaging never flags you.
Looting will flag you to the wreck's owner and owner's corp if he is in a player corp.

Well, if you are salvaging, you are also probably using tractor beams. A tractor will move a wreck toward you at 500. So if you are using a setup of four tractors and four salvagers you can TEAR through salvage real quick. It is far faster with tractors.
I start salvaging wrecks right when they hit the 5k range mark for the salvagers. Then if there is loot the container will normally drop within 1500. As I am dragging other wrecks into range of my salvagers or while other salvagers are working on wrecks already in range I loot the containers that have dropped from completed wrecks. ____________ Guides I like: Mining Guide V2.0.1 By Halada (Awesome guide!) |
