I'm using a dialup connection to my laptop via bluetooth on my mobile phone.
How long should it take to "aquire bulk data" via dialup it's up to 10 minutes so far and still going
Does Eve need to do this everytime or is it quicker after the first run ?

Only has to do it once per patch usually, small amounts are changed over time. ---------------------------------

Edited by: Calshim on 09/09/2007 03:42:48 Oh good it's up to 18 minutes now
I forgot how bad dial up is
Edit:- another question if my connection drops (as it just did ) does it start aquiring again from scratch or will it continue where it left off ? ------------------------------------------ BiteFight |

Edited by: Calshim on 09/09/2007 22:55:13 Nope never did get logged in
After 30 minutes I decided to stop, Hooked up the laptop when I got home and it logged in fine so it's gotta be something to do with the connection
Might be cause I'm connecting via bluetooth, gonna try it again in a little while and see what happens.
success \o/ now I'm never gonna get any work done ------------------------------------------ BiteFight |

I think your main problem is the connecting via bluetooth, ive hard connected my laptop to my phone and got 128kpbs speed - but the transfer rate on bluetooth seems much less.
So if you've got a USB cable for ur phone try that. And yes it needs to aquire that data once per patch i think.
P.s - Maby if u aquire the data at home or wherever u have good speed, then when u go out and conncet it via your phone the data will allready be there and then it wont take ages ? (just a thaught)

I did it via USB cable last night and did not have much trouble at all on AT&T's Edge network (460kps) I suspect the Bluetooth is the bottle neck.

Unfortunatly for some of us, its either dialup or no eve :(
Worst thing that has happend to me on dialup was one day I was hauling ore from once system to another in 0.0, there was a hostile in local in the system I was jumping out from, as he was not on the gate when I jumped I thought I would be safe. Well, I was wrong, when the next system loaded my badger was almost dead and I only just managed to warp my pod out before he shot that lol. _ This is a dev trap sig. It has beer in it. Lets see how many we can catch :) *Free Beer, Don't mind the spikes* |

Hahaha, thats exactly what i do as im on 56k too, although my connection is worse in empire than it is in 0.0. but yeah its the only connection i can get and it gets annoying. i lost a crow yesterday cos i was orbiting a gate and my connection lagged...when the lag cleared i was in station so ermm yeah its sucks but its better that nothing.

Yup, the bulk data acquisition is slower with dial-up. I've been using dial-up this week and although it is very slow, I usually manage to log-in within a few minutes (never actually counted the exact amount, but I'd usually be logged in by the time I finished the next chapter in my book).
