OK so if blasting an ore thief will get u in trouble with concord and a neg sec rating. If u are jsut starting abd have not joined an corp. Or if u don't wanna join a corp and are in secure space, or even unsecure space. It seems unfair that the ore thief can take ur ore and get away with it with no repercuasions on his end. and even more infiar that if u blast him then u get nailed for defending what u mined.
So please no flameing or bashing. Just options other then spending millions in giant secuer cargo on how to deal with ore thiefs.
Thanks.

No, that would make secure cans unneeded, everyone would just jettison in norma jet cans and kill everything that touched their can.
What is in space is public property.
*edit* last time I tried you could shoot and kill the pilot who "shot" at your can without Concord coming, but thats like 6-7 months ago since I done that. Spawn of the Devil

No, I have to totally disagree. Secure Cans are the solution to this problem. I know they are small compared to unsecure cans, but if you think there's a risk of getting your ore "liberated", you have to use them.
"Stealing" ore isnt an act of agression at all. Unsecure cans are free game, thats why secure cans exist.
Last time i stole ore was a few months ago, and i've mined with a secure container a few weeks ago (FOR SOME TRIT TO MAKE AMMO, HONEST!!), I've seen both sides of this concept, and i have to say, if you dont bother to use secure cans, you deserve to be liberated from your ore (Thats why i always used secure cans).
CCP agree with me btw! -

Go and look up the dictionary definition of the word "jettison".
You cannot steal that which is not owned.

Jettisoned ore is simply..anyone's. space is free game - so mining in an unsecure can is like putting a $100 bill on the sidewalk and getting upset when somebody picks it up. If you want to keep the ore you mine, put it in secure cans...only way you won't get flamed on forums when you post b/c your ****ed -.-

I think a better solution would be to up the size of secure containers. A giant secure container is only 3900 m3, but a jettisoned container is 27500 m3? Why can't I hold that much in my cargo hold then, if I can jettison out cans that size all day long....
Another good option - blueprints for secure cans, might help drop the price a bit.

I think they are already in the game and are called secure containers. In this case I agree with Viceroy 110%. If you cant be bothered to secure your items then you deserve it when you lose them.

i think the idea of secure cans kinda suck, have you looked at the belts in 0.9+ belts in empire space? its like 50+ cans in them and i bet noone is using them, its polution i tell ya!
mabye adding a skill that lets u unanchor secure cans(after they have been in space for x amount of days?) and grab them and sell them cheaper than npc price on market for nice profits

wow.... i think they are called secure cans? i have a simple idea....if you want to keep your ore, then mine secure. if they make secure cans bigger, it will just cause less complication on miners and make it easier for them, and wtf fun would that be? ore thieves in EVE aren't breaking any laws, and are making a living...just like miners. making bigger secure cans would cause balance issues, as this would just nerf ore thieves. its simple...stop complaining about losing ore from a can that is no longer yours and buy yourselves a secure can.

Well my idea was to have passwords even on cargo cans that you eject. Either you want someone to take it (ie. buddy hauling for you) or you don't want anyone to take it (ie. you will be bringing in your hauler to pick the can up). Oh to answer your question about Thieves.....I don't know any culture that beileves stealing is not against the law. I think CCp also thinks this, but to date they haven't found a way to combat it. Also if you make a skill that will allow you to secure any can, it would make better sence and not produce as much can pollution.

Wanna stop them gettin the ore, just blast the can before they get there. Problem solved.
Either way, you lose the ore so stop whining and trying to exploit to kill ore hauling consultants, they are just clearing up the trash cans lying around.

what you fail to understand is that space is open - meaning JETTISONED ORE IS NOT YOURS ONCE ITS JETTISONED. im not sure what is so hard to fathom about this, but it seems that miners fail to understand it. if you jettison something into space, it no longer belongs to you, so they arent even stealing it, they are taking "unwanted" (disregarding miners still want it) items for themselves, b/c thats the purpose of jettisoned cargo. they are breaking no laws, they are simply taking something that is there for the taking. which is what secure containers are for...no? ....

WTF, are you deaf or something.
You cant make jet cans secure, because then people would put a pw on the loot they just droped when getting blown up.
They have a skill, its called anchoring.
Theives?? In every culture i have seen, it is not theivery to pick up other peoples unwanted goods.
I dont like ore theives, but they are a part of the game, just like the 1.0 miners in BS, who steal ore on the noobs, because they are too cowardly to move along and mine in low security.
