So I have a 2nd account for my miner alt and was interested in using the alt to salvage for me to increase the speed that I complete/loot/salvage missions. I have a Thrasher setup as a salvager, and its fairly weak compared to the missions my main is running.
So, how do it do it without getting my alt plowed?

Clear the room with your main so that absolutely nothing dangerous is left.
Then follow behind with your alt salvaging/looting while your main clears the next room.
Edit: If it's a single pocket (i.e. no gate) then you'll probably just wait until your main clears out the mission before warping in. |

You can do it one of three ways.
1) Clear the mission completely before jumping your salvage alt in so they can salvage with no risk of getting nuked.
2) Jump in ahead of your alt and clear enough to aggro the rest, then salvage while you're clearing it.
3) This is the method I use -> If you bookmark any of the cans or wrecks that drop in a deadspace encounter, you cannot warp directly to that bookmark until the mission is completed. Once you turn in the mission, the deadspace area despawns, leaving any wrecks and cans behind in open space. You can then warp your salvage alt in to clean up while you get the next mission underway.
With this method, you can constantly run missions while your alt is one step behind you looting and salvaging. I have found it to be extremely profitable, and I couldn't imagine going back to salvaging my own missions. It's fast, it's profitable, and it risk free.

Open up people and places (places tab), hold <shift> and drag the bookmark into your hangar. Have your alt docked in the same station, right click, trade, drag the bookmark to alt.
Now alt has it, open up people and places (places tab) and drag the bookmark onto the places tab. Tada!

The only problem is salvaging fast enough. I tried your method before and always lagged behind with my salvage alt. Perhaps I should kill things slower  .

I just keep my 2nd char 1 jump behind, if its a mission with no gates then just have them in the same system and when the final wave is locked on to my main i'll warp in the salvager and get to work whilst i finish the mission.
easiest way to transfer bookmarks? drop the bookmark from ppl&places in to your cargo, then jettison in to a can at any stage in the mission. You should be grouped with your salvager anyway so they can just "warp to gang member" when its safe, then you can fly back and hand in whilst the marks are picked up from the can by your salvager.
