In the latest devchat there was a question about how to make PvP without risk so that new players can get a feeling for it and learn without having to risk their hard earned ships/implants/modules. What came into mind was that there could be an ingame simulator like jumpgate had. It worked like this. You pressed a button to enter "simulator mode". There you got access to all items in the market at no cost. You got access to the fitting screen and could try out diffrent configurations. You still couldn't use items you didn't have level enough for but you could try out the new all cool expensive ship before buying it. When you launched you could select if you wanted to fight diffrent NPCs or if you wanted to enter a "furball" arena where you could practise against real players. This was all great and I would very much like to see something similair in eve and it would give new players a perfect trainingground without risking to much. The way this could be done in eve would be to have this as a service in stations. When you launch you are always in the same simulated system no mather were you enter the simulator. Sure this is not something that is easilly done but it would be nice to see this as a future feature. It would lower the learning courve considerably and make for a better game. Sure Chaos can be used for this but chaos should mainly be used to try out the new patches and is often full anyhow. If the programers managed to do this then I am sure the programers of CCP will have no problem to do this.
Comments are very welcome.

PvP, not a bad idea, disagree with the idea of having access to all of the market items though; it'd give you no motivation to buy them later, since you already know what they're capable of ;) Rohaq |

Good Idea. Spice it up with gambeling at stations. and we would have a new profession: Gladiator.
and big corps could make a tournement where the winners could win stations. Titans. maybe even pilots?
-Can't be in the game atm. but can enjoy the forum-

Sounds really great. I remembered that I had much use of the simulator when I played jumpgate back in the days... |

Edited by: Qutsemnie on 14/02/2004 01:42:15 My frigate only regions of space makes PvP relatively risk free. I got 3 mill banked after a couple weeks of play. Loosing a frigate isnt a real concern unless I pointless loose it. IE get jacked by something I had no chance of winning against.

Yes it would be a great functionallity for corptraining. I have been doing some more thinking. I believe that the easiest way to make (atleast programing ways) this in the short run, would be to open another simulatorserver like chaos but running the normal version of eve but in a much smaller universe (about 50 solarsystems or so should do) and maybe a cap of 200 users or so. The characters would be replicated to the server but not the entire database on a regular basis maybe every week or so. Maybe just the skills and implants. No need for standings and all the other things. The corps would also be replicated to the server but basicly only the information containing wich members are in it. If that would be to tricky the corps can just be created again on the server.
Then the market would be flodded with items at no cost so that everyone could get/try out everything the want at close to their skilllevels.
The advantages of this would be that the devs don't need to mess up the servers or write any new code or modify the databases. This could keep peps busy during the downtimes so that you can play eve 24/7 if you want to This would also provide a great playground for the bughunters looking for bugs in the current tranq patchversion.
The disadvantages is that it may be tricky to just replicate the information needed but onces that has been solved it shouldn't be a problem. They need to set aside a few servers for the testserver.
Comments are welcome again and especially from a dev...
